"As a coach I have been coaching since 2009 and was able to produce national swimmers for the Philippines who won their own national titles, but more important than all the medals and accolades that this beautiful sport has to offer, I believe in each athlete’s journey. Not only the journey to being the best swimmer one can be but also and more importantly, that everyone can take something in this sport that will help them grow as individuals which eventually they can use in life. Each day is an opportunity to grow and every “now” is a gift to live in and cherish"

Lewis Smith Aquatics teacher/Competitive coach

Hello, my name is Lewis. I have had the privilege of experiencing an exceptional career in the aquatic world, having competed in two Commonwealth Games and proudly securing a Silver Medal in Delhi in 2010. During my career as a swimmer, I was the Scottish record holder in the 400 Individual Medley, both short and long course, with bests of 4:04 and 4:14 respectively.

My swimming journey allowed me to train and compete alongside some of the world's finest swimmers, including renowned names like Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte, experiences that honed my skills and expanded my perspective of the sport.

I represented Great Britain in several international competitions, such as the World Championships in Rome in 2009, multiple European Championships and 2 World University Games, where I clinched a Bronze in the 400 IM in Kazan, Russia 2013. Back at home, my swimming training translated into multiple Scottish and British titles in 200/ 400 IM and 200 Butterfly.

Following my retirement as a competitive swimmer, I channeled my passion for the sport into coaching, eager to inspire and shape the next generation of swimmers. As the Head Coach for the Scottish Youth Development squads, I had the opportunity to mold raw talent, fine-tune their techniques, and guide them towards realising their full potential. My time coaching has been as rewarding as my time in the water, coaching various swimmers clinch national titles and guiding one swimmer to multiple European Junior Titles.

As I venture into this new professional environment, I aim to fostering growth, push boundaries, and achieve excellence, just as I did in the pool and on the deck. I very much look forward to meeting all the Nexus swimmers.
