Academic Eligibility
Students must pass 5 courses each quarter (Physical Education classes and Aide positions do not count as one of these courses) and earn the following GPA:

Freshman and Sophomores - 1.2 GPA

Juniors and Seniors - 1.8 GPA
Required Forms

All required forms should be completed on Final Forms (Final Forms).

A current physical form must be completed and uploaded on Final Forms or turned in to the main office at WHS.

The Signature Page at the end of this Rules packet must be completed and signed. Return signed page to Coach Dave or Coach Diane.

Final Forms, current physical, and the signed rules page must be completed (and up to date) and turned in to be able to practice or compete in a meet.
Code of Conduct
Athletes must adhere to the WHS Code of Conduct at all times. The WHS Code of Conduct applies to athletes not only during school hours, but beyond the school day as well. Please review this and make appropriate choices at all times.
Attendance and Participation
To participate in a sport (extra-curricular) activity on a school day, a student must attend at least 5 out of 7 bells.
Practice Attendance
Consistent practice attendance is a primary factor in becoming a successful swimmer. Absences from practice are detrimental to the athlete and the team. Athletes are expected to:

Attend ALL practices each week.

Arrive on time and remain for the entire practice.
-
Club swimmers may practice with their club team instead of attending a WHS practice and will be eligible to letter. WHS coaches will check in with club coaches to verify that swimmers are making the practice requirement.

Participation in other school activities (band, cheerleading, football, etc.) will be considered if a swimmer is unable to attend swim practice. Conflicts in schedule should be COMMUNICATED with the coaches AS SOON AS you are aware of them.

A swimmer MUST attend 4 out of 5 practices Meet Weeks and 5 out of 6 practices No Meet Weeks.

Meet Information
-
Swimmers are expected to attend ALL meets for which they qualify.

Please schedule work around meets.

It is school policy that all team members ride the bus to and from away meets. Exceptions will be granted if communicated in advance and approved by coaching staff.

If an athlete will miss a meet, s/he must contact Coach Dave or Coach Diane in person, by email, or via text as soon as possible AND before the entry deadline. This includes School Trips (Senior, Disney, etc.)as well.

All team members are expected to remain at a competition for the entire length of the meet.
-
Team members will cheer for WHS athletes during competition and remain in the team area for the duration of the meet.
-
ALL athletes are expected to be available for the High School Tournament Meets.
-
Athletes MUST be available for the duration of the High School Tournament (Sectionals, District, and State) to be entered in the tournament.
-
Please schedule ACT, SAT, etc. tests around meet dates, especially the tournament.
-
All team members should help clean up the team area before departing.
-
A mandatory team warm-down will occur at the conclusion of each meet.
-
An absence from a meet, will result in the athlete not being entered in the next meet.
Travel Meets
-
WHS Swimmers are expected to be on their best behavior at all times. All school rules apply and will be strictly enforced for the entire trip.

Athletes are to be on hotel premises at all times and must follow all directions from coaches. Failure to follow rules will result in the athlete being sent home at his/her expense.

The team will arrange all housing and meal accommodations during the team trip. There may be additional expenses that will be the athlete’s responsibility.

Captains

2 Team Captains will be elected by swimmer vote prior to the parent meeting. Captains are Senior team members with at least 1 year experience on the WHS Swim Team.

Coaches may select up to 2 additional Captains.

Captains should be selected for their values, character, effort, and leadership skills. Please consider these items when voting for Captains.
Requirement for a Varsity Letter

Athletes who remain as members of the team in good standing throughout the full season (including the Tournament) are eligible to earn a Varsity letter.
-
Swimmers must compete at League Championships and Sectionals.
-
Practice and Meet Attendance requirements must be met.
-
Senior athletes who have participated for at least 3 years shall receive a varsity letter, as long as all other requirements (excluding Sectionals) are met.
-
The head coach may exercise his discretion and award a letter under special circumstances not mentioned above.
Requirements for a Junior Varsity Letter

Athletes who remain as members of the team in good standing throughout the full season are eligible to earn a Junior Varsity letter.

Swimmers must compete at League Championships.

Practice and Meet Attendance requirements must be met.

The head coach may exercise his discretion and award a letter under special circumstances not mentioned above.
