Volunteer Fee and Hours
A swim meet requires many volunteers to run smoothly and efficiently. We rely on our parents to help us to do this. We will charge a refundable Volunteer Fee of $75 per family. This charge will be added to your account during the registration process. After 10 hours of volunteering are completed, we will refund the full amount at the end of the summer swim season.
Hours will be tracked by our Volunteer Coordinator, Kelly Dorsett in the Team Unify system.
2) CAN ANYONE REGISTER OR DOES MY SWIMMER HAVE TO TRY OUT?
Kingfish Swim Club is in Division “A”, the most competitive division of the Prince-Mont Swim League and has grown to be one of the largest swim clubs in the league. As a result of our team size, 2025 season registration will initially open only to returning Kingfish swimmers and their siblings. We will accept new swimmers who are 12 years of age and younger and are proficient in at least one stroke. New swimmers older than 12 years of age, will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
**Please contact KSC directly via email at [email protected] to discuss enrollment of your swimmer if you are new to the club.
3) WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF SWIMMERS ON THE TEAM/IS THERE A REGISTRATION CAP?
We will close registration once we have reached a pre-determined capacity on May 26th, 2025 or whichever comes first. As much as we dislike turning kids away, we strive to keep our registration numbers safe and manageable. The Executive Board reserves the right to make all final registration decisions on behalf of the team.
4) DOES THE TEAM PRACTICE AND/OR PARTICIPATE IN SWIM MEETS IF IT IS RAINING?
Yes. Consistent with Prince-Mont Swim League rules, Kingfish Swim Club practices and participates in swim meets when it rains, unless there is lightning, torrential rain, high winds or other hazardous conditions that could impact the safety of our swimmers. Staff will make every effort possible to contact parents about event cancellations due to hazardous weather conditions.
5) WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY SWIMMER CANNOT ATTEND PRACTICE OR SWIM IN A SCHEDULED MEET?
If you are unable to attend time trials or swim in a meet please notify the Head Coach or Taryn Dorsey as soon as possible either in person or via email ([email protected]). Our swimmers are the heart of our program and we believe each and every swimmer plays a valuable role in our team’s success, so we need to know of absences as soon as possible in order to plan accordingly. If there will be an extended absence from practice please let us know, but if your swimmer will miss a single practice there is no need to inform us!
6) WHAT SHOULD MY SWIMMER KEEP IN HIS/HER SWIM BAG?
Your swimmer should always have two pairs of goggles, two swim caps, a swimsuit and a towel, each clearly marked with your swimmer’s name. Other suggested items include sunscreen and bottled water.
7) WHERE CAN I BUY THE TEAM SUIT?
Sport Fair will supply our team suits again this year. Sport Fair will be onsite at our 2025 Kick-Off Meeting (Friday, April 4th). You will also be able to order a team suit at a few practices prior to our first meet. Your suit can also be ordered and delivered by contacting Sport Fair at 703-524-9500. You can also visit their local store at 5010 Lee Hwy. Arlington, VA 22207.
8) WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO SPEAK WITH THE COACHES ABOUT MY SWIMMER’S PROGRESSION?
During practices, our coaches are focused exclusively on swim instruction. Thank you for allowing them to maintain that focus during practices. Please reach out to the coaches after practice or contact them via e-mail to schedule a mutually agreeable time to discuss your swimmer’s progress.
9) HOW DO YOU DETERMINE WHICH EVENTS MY SWIMMER WILL SWIM?
The coaching staff determines a swimmer’s meet preparedness based on observations during practice. Competitive line-ups are established on a weekly basis and communicated to parents and swimmers on the Thursdays prior to Saturday meets.
10) HOW DO KSC BOARD ELECTIONS WORK?
The Board of Directors consists of a minimum of seven and a maximum of 11 members, each of whom serves on a volunteer basis throughout the year to help conduct the business and administrative affairs of Kingfish Swim Club. Officers include the President and Vice-President (who must have served on the Board for a minimum of one year) and the Secretary and Treasurer, each of whom is elected by the Kingfish Swim Club parent body. Terms are generally two years in length, though the Board maintains a staggering plan that allows for shorter or longer terms to ensure a balance of experience. The Board may also appoint current and prior Board members to officer positions where necessary to ensure a balance of experience and effectuate succession planning.
Board elections are held annually at the season banquet/wrap party. If uncontested (i.e., the number of candidates seeking to join does not exceed the number of open spaces, or only one person is seeking an officer position), voting is held by a show of hands; if contested, ballots are used. Parents interested in joining the Board are encouraged to express interest via email at [email protected].
11) WHAT IS THE CLUB'S CONTACT INFORMATION?
You can contact us by email at [email protected]; or by contacting current Board President, Taryn Dorsey at [email protected].
