NSS 13-14/Senior Invite
The 2008 edition of the NSS 13-14/Senior Invite continued to be one of the best meets for our swimmers to participate. As the focus meet of the first part of the season, the Riptides swimmers ripped up the pool to achieve many personal best times, new championship q-times and even new SC Swimming State records!
Julia Campbell earned new Age-group Sectional Championship q-times in the 100- and 200- breaststroke events and the 200- and 400-IM events. Julia led all swimmers with the largest improvement of 25 seconds in the 1650-free.
Older sister Lauren added another Senior Sectional Championship q-time in the 200-IM to her list. But more importantly, Lauren secured her first NCSA Junior National Championship q-time in the 1650-free, swimming to a 17:17.0. Lauren also broke the 1:00 barrier in the 100 backstroke, splitting 59.7 in the relay.
Nothing seems to be slowing Megan Kingsley who already has q-times in every Age-group Sectional Championship event, but is adding Senior Sectional q-times in the 200-IM, 500-free and 200-back. That is not the story, however. Megan earned her first NCSA Junior National q-time in the 200-fly. Her time of 2:06 smashes her SC Swimming State record by 3 seconds. Also, her time of 2:07.8 in the 200-backstroke was another SC Swimming State record.
Keenan Lineback continues to set the standard for girls swimming along the Grand Strand. Keenan’s 5:02 in the 500 free was a new NCSA Junior National q-time. Keenan then requalified in the 400-IM and 1650-free. And finally, Keenan earned her 4th NCSA Junior National q-time in the 200-butterfly.
Phil Mustert, while balancing practices and the college process, swam to several personal bests and broke some barriers of his own. Phil swam his first sub-4:40 500 with a 4:39.7 and sub-50 second 100 free, going 49.1 and a new Senior Sectional Championship q-time. Phil nearly broke the 23-second barrier in the 50-free, swimming 23.06.
Jesse Perl rounded out the MB Riptides squad to Charlotte. Jesse was second in single largest improvement, dropping 19 seconds in the 400-IM, going 4:48. Jesse, however, earned two new Age-group Sectional Championship q-times in the 100- and 200-breastroke events, swimming 1:07.8 and 2:25.1, respectively.
All-in-all, there were over 40 personal best times swum. 6 new Age-group Sectional Championship q-times. 6 new Senior Sectional Championship q-times. 6 total NCSA Junior National Championship q-times. 3 NCSA Junior National qualified swimmers. And 2 new SC Swimming State records. 2008 could not have ended better for the Riptides. Time to bring in 2009!
