Riptides Racing Team Heats up at SC State Championships The South Carolina Swimming State Championships were hosted February 12-15 at the Westside Aquatic Center in Greenville, SC. The four-day event hosted nearly 800 swimmers from around the Palmetto State. For the locally based Riptides Racing Team, the SC Swimming State Championships went extremely well. McWhorter Leads Riptides, Grand Strand at SC Swimming Championships The 2015 South Carolina Swimming State Championships were hosted July 23-26 at the University of SC in Columbia. Over 600 athletes from the Palmetto State attended the four-day event. The locally-based Myrtle Beach Riptides swim team sent ten athletes to compete. For the Riptides, 12-year old Peyton McWhorter led the Riptides in every category including personal best times, team records and scoring swims. Myrtle Beach Riptides swim team has busy November The Riptides swim team had a busy November, competing in two meets in Mount Pleasant, SC and in Raleigh, NC. Mount Pleasant 12/Under Grand Prix #3 – Twenty-three Riptides’ swimmers competed in Grand Prix #3 on November 8 in Mount Pleasant. The event was the first meet of the 12/Under Grand Prix Series. Riptides Compete at USC: The Myrtle Beach Riptides swim team competed at the 2014 Carolina Aquatics May Breakout meet during the Memorial Day weekend. The event was hosted at the University of South Carolina. Eighteen members of the Riptides competed in the event, garnering 76 personal best times and 5 new SC State Championship qualifying times. Danielle Flaherty led the Riptides with a perfect 10-for-10 personal best times. Olympic Swimmer Visits Myrtle Beach 2012 Olympic swimmer Elizabeth Beisel visited Myrtle Beach May 9-10 to conduct a swim clinic with the Myrtle Beach Riptides swim team. Beisel, who won the silver medal in the 400 Individual Medley and the bronze medal in the 200 backstroke, is a senior at the University of Florida. Beisel has been a member of the US National swim team since age 13. Her achievements include NCAA Championship event wins and wins at World Swimming Championships.
