SMRT Long-course Invite

Eleven Riptides swimmers traveled to Charleston to kick of the 2009 long-course season.  The weather at the SMRT Long-course Invite was perfect and swimming was just as good.  All told, the Riptides accounted for 16 event wins and 23 personal best times.

Chad Bateson was a perfect 5-for-5 best times and swam to eight Top-6 finishes.  Eddie Bateson went 6-for-6 personal best times and had six Top-6 finishes including an event win in the 200-backstroke.

Julia Campbell placed in the Top-2 in six events and was the event winner in the 100-breast and 200-fly.  Lauren Campbell earned event wins in the 100-fly, 200-back and IM, 400 IM and 1500-free and two 2nd places and one 3rd place.

Andi Churchill swam went 2-for-2 best times and slashed nearly 30 seconds off of her 100 free.  Connor Churchill competed in his first-ever long-course meet and had two Top-10 finishes!

Danielle Flaherty also competed in her first long-course meet.  Danielle was the only 8/Under from the Riptides to compete in the 400-meter free!

Jack King went 2-for-2 in best times and won the 100-breast.  Both of his bests were 33 and 35 second improvements!  Younger brother Sean competed in his first long-course meet and even earned a Top-10 finish in the 100-back.

Megan Kingsley led all swimmers with event wins in seven events: 100-back and breast, 200-fly, breast and IM, 400-IM and 1500-free.  Megan finished 2nd in the 200-back.

"Wonka" Lewis competed in four events, earning Top-10 in the 200-back and 400-free.  This was Wonka's last meet with the Riptides as his family will be moving.  Good luck Wonka, we will miss you!
