Age-group coach Justin Schreer said he was very pleased with the way the Riptides swam.
“It was great to have so many personal best times and team records broken at the first meet of the season. We didn’t have as many disqualifications as we would expect with so many new swimmers, which is a great sign of things to come for the rest of the year,” commented Schreer.

Lauren Campbell (Myrtle Beach High School) placed 3rd in both of her events at the 2009 SC High School 3-A State Championships held October 10 at Clemson University.
Campbell competed in the 100-yard butterfly and the 500-yard freestyle events. Campbell set a Riptides’ team record in the 100-yard butterfly, swimming a 59.10; she was right on her best time in the 500-freestyle, swimming a 5:07.
Riptides’ head coach James Smith was very pleased with Campbell’s performances at the high school state championship.
“Despite the earliness of the season, it’s great to have Lauren breaking 1:00 in the butterfly and to be barely one second off of her best 500 free time. The rest of the season should bode very well for Lauren,” said Smith.
In just her first two years of competing in high school, Campbell has finaled in three different events for Myrtle Beach High School: 100-butterfly (2008, 09), 100-backstroke (2008) and 500-freestyle (2009).
