MB Riptides Swimming Team Competes in Charleston, SC
Nineteen members of the Myrtle Beach Riptides swimming team traveled to Charleston, SC on November 7 for the second installment of the 12-and-Under Grand Prix Series of swimming meets. The Riptides tallied 17 personal best times and 4 new team records.
Mackenzie Angwin broke her own record in the 10-Under girls 50-yard breaststroke.
Garrett Beauprez established a new mark in the 11-12 boys 100-yard butterfly, giving him the records in all three distances – 50-, 100- and 200-yards.
Jack King led all Riptides with two new records in the 10-Under boys 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke events.
Connor Churchill, 10-Under, had the single largest improvement of nearly 16 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke.
James Angwin, Andi Churchill, Ashlyn Dekleva, Ryan Eldred, Zary Gouin, Sean King and Chloe Ladd each had at least one new personal best time.
Rounding out the Riptides’ contingent to Charleston were Garrison Beauprez, Noah Cruz, Noelle Cruz, Shannon Eldred, Madison Fairchild, Danielle Flaherty, Rachel Krivanek and Emily Sabella.
Riptides’ age-group coach Justin Schreer said the 12-Under Grand Prix Series continues to serve as a great educational opportunity for the young swimmers.
“The Grand Prix Series has been a perfect format for new and younger swimmers to compete in a low-key atmosphere. The first four meets of the Series are just one day events, so swimmers and parents can be eased into the longer events at a gradual process,” said Schreer.
