Riptides in Augusta, GA
MB Riptides swimming team continues record-setting ways
The Myrtle Beach Riptides swimming team recently traveled to Augusta, GA for the 2009 ASL Fall Invitational swimming meet. Nine swimmers from the locally-based Riptides made the journey for the 2 ½ day event amassing 17 new team records and 31 new personal best times.
Mackenzie Angwin (10/Under) broke the record in the 50-yard breaststroke, 47.47 seconds, and earned 7 personal best times.
Chad Bateson (11-12) set new team records in the 50-yard breaststroke, 38.38 seconds, 50-yard butterfly, 34.76, and 50-yard freestyle, 28.98. C. Bateson had four best times for the meet.
Eddie Bateson (11-12) raised the standard in the 50-yard backstroke to 34.58 seconds and picked up 6 personal bests in the process.
Garrett Beauprez (11-12) raced to four personal bests including a nearly 7-second improvement in the 200-yard Individual Medley.
Julia Campbell (13-14) earned a best time in the 200-yard backstroke by more than 5 seconds and re-qualified for the 2010 SC State Championships in four events – 100-fly, 200-breaststroke, 400-IM, and 1650-freestyle.
Lauren Campbell (15-16) improved the Riptides’ standards in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events, swimming to 26.04 and 55.57 seconds, respectively.
Danielle Flaherty (10/Under) set 3 records in the 50-yard butterfly, 43.98 seconds, 100-IM, 1:28.88, and 50-free, 37.35. Flaherty’s improvement in the 100-IM by almost 18 seconds led the Riptides.
Megan Kingsley (13-14) led all Riptides with 7 new team records in the 50-free, 25.39, 100-fly, 58.18, 100-breaststroke, 1:11.52, 200-free, 1:55.25, 200-back, 2:07.68, 200-fly, 2:06.44, and 400-IM, 4:28.61.
Keenan Lineback (Senior) completed the squad to Augusta where she improved her 200-backstroke time to 2:09.88 and re-qualified to 2010 SC State Championships in 10 events.
Head coach James Smith commented that the performances from the swimmers were expected as the Riptides have continued to improve with each competitive event they have participated.
