Riptides Make a Splash In Season Openers!

Riptides Make a Splash at Season Openers!

The Myrtle Beach Riptides are off to a wonderful start this 2010 fall season.  The team recently competed in the STAR Triad Invite in Winston-Salem, NC followed by the first meet in the Grand Prix series in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

“It has been a busy but successful start to the season, we have already seen many best times,” Coach Brittany Todd said in response to these first few meets.

Many of the Riptides made the trip to NC for the STAR Invite where they tore up the pool and had fun doing so!

The senior ladies: Megan Kingsley, Keenan Lineback, Julia Campbell, and Lauren Campbell swam very well for the first meet of the season placing in the top 8 in almost every event causing many heads to turn!

“Our age group swimmers also had a nice showing.  Mackenzie Angwin (11) swam 9 out of 10 best times, Emily Sabella (12) dropped chunks of time left and right, Danielle Flaherty (10) swam a best time in the 50 freestyle, and Morgan Lee (11) and Sahara Lord (11) swam best times in all of their events,” Coach Brittany said.

“Even our 8 and under swimmers were awesome!  Jake Flaherty (7) swam 9 events including his new favorite the 100 IM.  Brice Hipp (8) and Jace Lord (8) swam many best times and set standards for events they had never swum before.  It was a great meet overall,” stated Coach Brittany.

Just a week after the START Triad Invite the Riptides traveled to Mt. Pleasant to swim in the Grand Prix meet hosted by Mt. Pleasant Swim Club.  Led by Coach Mary Churchill, the Riptides continued to see fast times!

Sean King swam best times in all of his events; Jace Lord, Zary Gouin, Henry King, Jake Flaherty and Connor Churchill swam a few more best times; Danielle Flaherty had an amazing 200 IM achieving her State Qualifying time; Mackenzie Angwin dropped another 5 seconds in her 200 freestyle from the weekend prior; Emily Sabella and Sahara Lord posted fast times as well; and Ashlyn Dekleva swam best times in many of her events.

“The meet went really well, the kids swam fast and had a good time.  For Alexis Skipper, Kathryn Wertheimer, Kylie Woods, and Reegan Goyer  it was their first meet ever and they did wonderfully!” said Coach Mary Churchill, “I was so proud of them!”

The Riptides are hosting The IMX Challenge on Saturday, October 16 at Pepper Geddings where they plan to continue posting fast times.  “Our team has been making some major changes recently which seem to be leading us in the right direction.  This is only the beginning,” stated Coach Brittany, clearly so proud of her team.
