Riptides Wrap-up November
Myrtle Beach Riptides Wrap-up November Competitions
The final two weeks of November were busy for the Myrtle Beach Riptides swimmers with competitions for both age-group members and collegiate members.
Palmetto Aquatics Turkey Invite –
Twenty-four swimmers from the Riptides travelled to the University of South Carolina for the Palmetto Aquatics Turkey Invite. This was a very tough meet for the Riptides, many of whom recently competed two weeks earlier and are in the bulk of the heaviest training before the December focus meet. However, when the water settled, the Riptides were able to secure seventy-nine personal best times, six new SC State Championship qualifying times and four team records.
Connor Campbell led the Riptides with four new State Championship q-times in the 50- and 100-yard backstroke events, 100-butterfly and 200-freestyle. Campbell set three new team records in the 10/Under 50- and 100-freestyle events and 100-butterfly.
Lexi Roberts set another 10/Under team record in the 100-butterfly. Roberts owns all but one Riptides’ team record for 10/Under girls.
Eddie Bateson added a new State Championship q-time in the 15-18 200-butterfly. Julia Campbell added a new State Championship q-time in the 15-18 1000-freestyle.
Joel Cox (200-backstroke) and Ella Speir (200-freestyle) led Riptides with the single largest improvements of over 20 seconds in at least one individual event. Tucker Hendrix, Megan Koppel and Ireland Rose also had double-digit improvements.
Rafael Adi, Mackenzie Angwin, Chad Bateson, Alyssa Cozart, Riley Davis, Kailey Habib, Taylor Koppel, Hannah McDonough, Peyton McWhorter, Ana Muntean, Ethan Nechemia, Chloe Stampfle, Chase Teasley, Maggie Warner and Cobi Williams each earned personal best times.
