2024 Southern Zone Open Water Championships
DECLARATION TO PARTICIPATE in OW Zones deadline is APRIL 12, 2024, for swimmers who competed in Open Water Nationals in 2023.
The application deadline for all other swimmers who are interested in OW Zones is April 15, 2024

- There will be an application fee of $1 charged to a credit card at the time of Declaration/Application. If the swimmer is not accepted to the team, the $1 will be refunded to the card on file the week of April 22nd.
- This is an FGC team travel trip, and the balance of $500 will be charged to the card on file when the swimmer is accepted to the FGC Open Water Zone Team.
- The Declaration to participate deadline for swimmers who raced in the 2023 OW Nationals is April 12, 2024, at 5 pm. All other swimmers interested in being considered for the FGC OW Zone Team must apply by April 15, 2024, at 5 pm. No late applications will be taken.
- Alternates will be considered through 6th place to fill open spots. Then USA Swimming power points for the 1650/1500 will be used to fill any remaining spots. The higher power points number of the two races (1650/1500) will be used to determine the order of qualification. Applications must be submitted on time.
The 2024 Southern Zone Open Water Championships will be held in Kentucky on May 31-June 2,2024.

The Competition: The competition begins with check-in on Friday, May 31st.
All swimmers are expected to participate in Friday, Saturday, and Sunday events.

2024 "Sunshine State Showcase" (4-TEAM FORMAT) March 22-23 at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, FL.
The 2024 meet will maintain its "winner take all" format based on the application, draft, and schedule below.
One team will have bragging rights…until next year!
The Competition Schedule: The competition runs from Friday (3/22) evening through Saturday (3/23) evening. The meet announcement and order of events will be available soon! .

- The 2024 Swimmer Application Process REMAINS THE SAME and will take place during the FGC Age Group Champs at Coral Springs on Saturday, March 9th & Sunday, March 10th, 2024.
- Swimmers who finish in the Top 6 in any individual event* (10 & Under, 11-12, and 13-14) are eligible for the Team. *Distance events are limited per the meet information.
- Swimmers who age up between AG Champs and the Sunshine State Showcase meet are still eligible to compete. However, they must swim in their new age group. IF an athlete turns 15 on or before March 22nd, they are NOT eligible for selection.
- The Application Table will open starting on Friday, March 8th @ 11:00a.m
- There will be an application fee of $85.00 (payable upon acceptance)
- Application DEADLINE - Sunday, March 10, 2024 - 30 minutes after the last individual event is completed. (NO late apps will be taken)
- Swimmers MUST enter the events they finish highest in! And must swim 6 events in the meet.
- Swimmers must attend all sessions of the meet. DRAFT FORMAT.
- Once all FGC and FL Swimming entries are sent to the meet host, there will be a swimmer DRAFT!
- The psych sheet will be used to create 4 Teams (Gators, Sharks, Rays, Barracudas) and each team will consist of swimmers/coaches from both FGC and FL Swimming.
- The Draft is designed to make the teams as even and competitive as possible. It will not be limited to a particular number of swimmers from each LSC.
- A swimmer's team assignment CAN NOT be changed once the draft has taken place. Event selection can not be changed either.
- Hotel Information is listed at the end of the Meet Information.
- Please note this trip is parent travel and you are responsible for getting your swimmer to/from the meet. And staying with your swimmer overnight during the meet.

The Competition: The competition begins with check-in on Friday, June 2nd from 3:30-7 PM. All swimmers are expected to participate in both Saturday and Sunday events.
Team/Swimmer Schedule: The details of the trip will be filled in as the event gets closer. Remember this is team travel and FGC has secured flights, hotel, and transportation already for the swimmers and coaches.
- Depart from MIAMI to Charlotte at 8:09 am
- Return to FORT LAUDERDALE landing at 6:47 pm
- Reason for 2 different airports - We avoid leaving very early and landing very late by splitting airports. COACHES - Please Do NOT leave your car at the airport; please carpool.

2023 All-Stars- NEW 4-TEAM FORMAT March 24-26, 2022, at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, FL.

Swimmer Eligibility and Application Process:

Any Covid guidelines or restrictions will be posted closer to time. At the moment we are operating at 50 % capacity which would allow 900 in the building for the meet. Looking at the anticipated number of coaches/athletes/volunteers the building will be at capacity based on current guidelines. We will be doing a live feed of the event.
The mask mandate has been lifted. We are allowed to have a T-shirt apparel vendor (Northwest Designs) and Swim and Tri will be present. We will do our best to keep all safe.

- FGC is looking forward to putting together a full All-Star team
- Masks will be required for all swimmers when not swimming. FGC All-Stars will have an expanded socially distant seating area on the opposite side of the pool from Florida's team.
- The meet will have a closed deck - no parents allowed in the swimmer or coaches areas.
- Parents will be allowed in a limited spectator area to watch their swimmer race, they are then asked to leave the pool area and relax in the grass fields or cars outside of the pool area so they can spread out.

**Age Determination for Eligibility** Originally this meet was scheduled to use FINA age eligibility rules. That plan has changed and swimmers will now compete based on USA Swimming Age Group Rules.
This is a TEAM Travel Meet: The members of the OW Zone Team will travel and stay together as a team. Travel by chartered bus. Hotel reservations have been made.

FGC All-Star Team Selection Criteria
• 10 & under: 800 Meter Race - FIVE athletes per gender based on performances in the 500yd /400m freestyle.
• 11-12: 2.5K Race - FIVE athletes per gender based on performances in the 500 yard / 400 meter freestyle.
• 13-14: 5K Race - FIVE athletes per gender based on performances in the 1650 yard / 1500 meter freestyle.
• 15-18: 5K Race - FIVE athletes per gender based on performances in the 1650 yard / 1500 meter freestyle.
- For selection, METER times will be converted to YARDS using Swimming World Time Conversion Utility.
- Athletes must be in the designated age group as of April 29, 2017.
- Selection Times will be based on performances between March 1, 2016 and APRIL 1, 2017.
Upon selection, the athlete must agree to pay a fee of $50 (to FGC toward the cost of the competition). Swimmers will receive two FGC team T-shirts and one team cap.
