John Carroll Head Senior Coach

John has been coaching swimming for over 40 years. Hea has coached all ages, levels and abilities. He has coached an American Record Holder, two USA Olympians, and 38 USA Olympic-trial qualifiers spanning 1988 to present. John's swimmers have been selected to compete internationally at Pan-Pacific Championships, Pan-American Championships, World University Games, World Junior Championships, and NCSA All-Star teams. He has coached National and Junior National Champions and had swimmers achieve NCAA Division 1 All-American status. He has helped countless swimmers into Power 5 Conference schools and has watched them grow into World Class citizens.

John is a lifetime member of  USA Swimming. He is a lifetime member of ASCA and is a Level 5 Coach. He is the past president of NCSA, and a current member of their board of directors. He has been involved in Middle Atlantic Swimming on the Board/Committee level for over 30 years; he is currently the Travel Chair.

John and his wife have 5 children and enjoy spending time with family and friends.

Robert Querubin Head Age Group Coach

Bob has more than thirty five years of coaching experience at every level.  His background includes coaching novice swimmers through to Olympic Trial qualifiers, and all levels in between.  Coach Bob has trained swimmers at all levels of intensity, from the introduction and experience of competitive swimming in the summer club environment to preparing competitive athletes in high school swimming onto guiding elite level athletes to national level competition. He is particularly adept at balancing the intensity level with fun to insure the continuation of the swimmers in the sport.

High School swimmers under Coach Bob's guidance have earned 9 NJ State High School Team Champions, 20 SJ State Division Titles, and multiple Individual High School State Champion titles. In addition, he has been recognized as the NJ State High School Coach of the Year (Newark Star Ledger, 2010) and NJ Scholastic Intercollegiate Athletic Association Coach of the Year (2008). In addition to club and high school swim, Coach Bob has over 15 years of coaching in the Tri-County, with teams earning four division titles and individual athletes earning Swimmer of the Year.

Ian Anderson Head Age Group Coach - Echelon

Ian Anderson joins BWA with 25 years of experience and a deep passion for the sport of swimming. As a  former athlete in the Tri-County League, Middle Atlantic Swimming, and at the collegiate level in New Jersey, Ian brings both competitive knowledge and a lifelong love for the water. In addition to his athletic background, he is in his seventh year as an elementary school educator, where he has honed techniques to foster engagement, participation, and growth in young learners. Ian is dedicated to helping swimmers of all ages build skills, confidence, and a lasting connection to the sport. His greatest reward as a coach is seeing athletes carry the lessons learned on the pool deck with them well beyond high school. Through prioritizing a positive mindset, consistency and respect, Coach Ian plans to help our swimmers have their most successful year yet!

Christian Cantwell Coach

Coach Cantwell has an extensive competitive swimming background and has been coaching for the last 15 years.  He’s experienced success at all levels of coaching, from age group through collegiate and has worked with numerous Jr National, Sr National and Olympic Trial qualifiers, along with NCAA finalists.  Most recently, his coaching interests have gravitated towards stroke technique and mechanics.  For the past 5 years, he’s been working exclusively with swimmers on an individual basis, looking to optimize swimmers’ strokes, starts and turns from a technical standpoint.  Coach Cantwell has a passion for targeting and correcting deficiencies within swimmer’s stroke to help them become better athletes.

As an athlete, Coach Cantwell was a 2-time NJ State Champion, a Jr National Champion, a 4-time Sr National finalist and Olympic Trials qualifier in 2000 and 2004.  In college, Coach Cantwell was part of 4 SEC Championship teams and 1 NCAA Championship team.

Academically, Coach Cantwell received his B.A. from Auburn University and also holds an M.S. from New York University.

Coach Cantwell currently resides in Cherry Hill with his wife Tracy and daughters Cameron and Taylor.

Barb Carroll Coach

Barb Hockl Carroll has been coaching swimming for forty years.  She has coached swimmers of all ages with various levels and abilities.  She has coached both summer league and USA club teams and has had great success where ever she has coached. Barb likes working with age group swimmers, her strengths are getting her swimmers to love the sport and getting them to improve to the next level. Barb started her swimming career at age 11 years old with a summer league background, then progressed quickly to USA club swimming through her high school years until she earned a swimming scholarship to the University of Delaware, where she closed her career as a conference champion in the 50 freestyle. Barb has achieved many team records over her career and still holds team records from her beginning summer team.

Barb is a teacher for the Maple Shade School District. She has taught various grade over the past thirty-four years of her career. Currently she loves teaching her virtual kindergarten class! Barb is married to John and they have five wonderful children-including Coach Christie! Barb enjoys being with her family and friends.

Christie Carroll Owens Coach
Christie grew up in a swim family and started competing at a young age. She swam for Cherokee High School and then went on to Rowan University where she swam all four years, made Deans list, and graduated with degrees in Elementary Education and Math/ Science. She currently works in Mt. Ephraim as a 5th grade teacher. Christie spends her summers coaching Cherry Valley in Cherry Hill where she is the head coach. 

 

Her career thus far has been working with developmental and mini swimmers where she enjoys helping swimmers on their mechanics and seeing them succeed by dropping time and achieving A level time standards. Christie is a certified USA swim coach.

Joseph Carroll Coach

Joe is entering into his second year of coaching with BWA. He has an eight year competitive USA swimming background, and swam for Cherokee High School and Ramblewood Swim Team. Enthusiastic and hard-working, Joe is great with developing younger swimmers! He is a graduate of Kutztown University.

Ken Faykes Coach

Ken has been coaching swimmers since 1989. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut, where he was a New England Conference gold medalist in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, as well a member of the record setting 400-yard freestyle relay in the Big East Championships. Ken was a four-year varsity letter winner and received UConn's "Outstanding Senior Athlete" Award. Ken was also team captain his junior and senior years.

Meghan Gardner Coach
Meghan started competing in swimming at the age of 13 for the Burlington County College Aqua Barons.  When Meghan went to college (University of Nebraska), she played right wing for the Water Polo Club Team. While at Nebraska, Meghan coached for the University Masters Swim Team.  Meghan graduated from University of Nebraska in 2006 with a B.A. in English and a minor in Sociology.  Meghan then went on to receive her Masters in Education Cross-Categorical Special Education from the University of Phoenix in 2009.  Meghan coached for the Jersey Devilrays USA Swim Team from 2007-2019 and Holy Cross High School from 2007-2018.  Meghan began coaching for the Blue Wave Aquatics in the Spring of 2021. Meghan also started coaching for the Deerwood Tritons summer swim team in the Summer of 2022.
 
Meghan currently teaches middle school special education language arts at Memorial Middle School in Willingboro.  She has been a part of the Philadelphia Fins Masters Swim Team for over 10 years where she has multiple long course team records.  She has records in the Women’s 25-29 age group 400 free, 800 free, and 1500 free.  Meghan also holds the 200 breaststroke record in the Women’s 30-34 age group as well as the 35-39 age group.  Meghan also enjoys competing in ballroom dancing, specializing in Latin.

Brianna Penney Coach

Brianna started swimming with the Gloucester City Stingrays at the age of 7.  She went on to swim throughout her high school career. She is currently finishing up her 2nd year of college with a major in elementary/secondary education and is planning to attend Rowan University in the Spring.

Brianna is currently Head Coach of the GC Stingrays and is going into her third year of coaching. She is also a USA Certified swim coach and has been coaching Spring Warmups with Blue Wave Aquatics.
