A 1993 graduate of Wright State University, Mike earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History and was a 3-year member of the Raiders swim team.

After Wright State, Mike started his coaching career at Washington Township Recreation Center in Centerville, Ohio where he helped grow a team of approximately 40 athletes in 1993 into a team of 220 athletes and a perennial state age group powerhouse through 1999. From 1999-2017, Mike coached at the storied Cincinnati Marlins in many different roles. In roles ranging from Head Age Group Coach to Associate Head Coach, Mike was involved in all facets of the team, playing a key role in their recognition as a Gold Medal Club. From the Marlins, Mike moved to Charlottesville, Virginia, in the spring of 2017 having been hired as the Head Coach of CYAC (rebranded Cavalier Aquatics in 2020). While in Charlottesville, Mike helped develop both a premier age group and national team and coached Charlottesville’s first club swimmer to an Olympic Trials cut. Coaching accomplishments include 1996 Age Group Coach of the Year in Ohio, 10+ Ohio Age Group State Team Championships, a US Junior National Team title, approximately 10 NAG Record’s broken (both individual and relay), and a 3rd place team finish nationally in spring of 2021 at Y Festival (formerly known as Y Nationals).

Mike and his wife Leslie (CGBD and UNC Grad, former ACC Swimmer of the Year) and their two children, Olivia and Luke – both swimmers, love Richmond! Mike is an avid Cincinnati sports fan (Bengals, Reds, Bearcats) and enjoys spending time with his family when not coaching.
