Poseidon Swimming’s Mission is to train, develop and motivate swimmers in the pursuit of individual excellence in a safe and supportive team-oriented environment. We are committed to ensuring a safe and supportive environment where the protection of our youth athletes is the top priority. As part of that mission, we are implementing the Safe Sport Policies as defined by USA Swimming. All Poseidon athletes and parents must read and understand the content of the Safe Sport guidelines and BEST PRACTICES. It is also recommended that parents and athletes read USA Swimming’s CODE OF CONDUCT. 

Poseidon also has implemented its own policies to ensure that safety of all of our swimmers.

Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy (MAAPP) 
 
Every USA Swimming Member clubs are required to implement the new Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy (MAACP) by January 1, 2025. This Policy addresses risk areas that present opportunities for abuse to occur.
 
The Policy covers five (5) areas:
  1. One-on-One Interactions
  2. Travel: Local & Team
  3. Social Media & Electronic Communication
  4. Locker Rooms & Changing Areas
  5. Massages & Rubdowns

Recognizing and Reporting a Safe Sport Violation

 
MANDATORY REPORTING RULE
Pursuant to federal law, all adults authorized to interact with minor or amateur athletes who learn of facts that give reason to suspect that a child has suffered an incident of child abuse, including sexual abuse, shall make a report of the suspected abuse to law enforcement and/or your state’s designated agency within 24 hours.
 
Suspected abuse or misconduct, should be reported to USA Swimming and U.S. Center for Safe Sport.

Parent Training 
The USA Swimming Safe Sport Program is proud to offer free training, Parent's Guide to Misconduct in Sport, to the parents of their member athletes. Parents are a critical component to USA Swimming's overall goal to protecting children from sexual abuse. The comprehensive online programming includes information about how offenders operate; how to recognize and respond to boundary violations, myths and facts about child sexual abuse and USA Swimming’s Athlete Protection Policies and Procedures. USA Swimming has developed a free education program for athlete ages 12-18 Safe Sport for Youth Athletes.
