Dive Class Levels 


 

Beginner (Ages 7-12): No prior diving experience is necessary. Must have passed the swim test. This is a half hour course that will include an introduction to diving safety (including deck and board safety), body awareness and alignment upon entry, fundamental drills on dry land and the diving board. Class will introduce the forward approach with one and three-step hurdles, front and back line-ups, front dive, (optional) back dive with assistance or independently, introduction to forward somersault via "watermelons."

 

Intermediate: All participants need prior diving experience or permission of the dive coach. This course will include a review diving safety (including deck and board safety), body awareness and alignment upon entry, emphasis on board work, take-offs and dry land. Class will include the forward approach with three-step hurdles, back press and jump, front and back line-ups, front dive, independent back dive. Emphasis will be placed on front and back takeoffs with an introduction to forward and backward optional dives including somersaults, front 1 1/2s and inward dives. Those who are ready may learn a few twisting dives. 

 

Advanced: Divers must be able to do a successful inward dive and forward 1 ½ somersault to be in this class. This course will include a review diving safety (including deck and board safety), body awareness and alignment upon entry, emphasis on board work, take-offs and dry land. Class will include basic and optional dives from each of the five diving groups: Front, back, reverse, inward and twisting.
