Joining the Swim Team Step One: Tryouts

Doing a tryout is the first step in joining Wave's swim team. This is a chance for coaches to see if a prospective swimmer is actually ready for swim team, and if so which level they will start at.

Tryouts for the swim team are listed on this website on the Meets & Events Page as well at www.waveaquatics.org.

All interested swimmers must pass a tryout with our coaches before registering with the swim team- this is true for both our Sport and Select programs.

Tryouts happen in December, March, and August.  If there is not a tryout for your swimmer's age group, we do not have space in that age group.

The exception to that is an athlete who is truly fast. As a competitive team, we will work to make space for an athlete who is truly fast in the water. For these athletes, we may do in-practice tryouts.

Not everyone who tries out makes the team. Wave has an open door policy and anyone not ready is encouraged to take any needed lessons and come back again for the next tryout.

Athlete placement into a training group is based on their age and ability. The coaches are the only ones qualified to make that determination.

Wave Aquatics is a competitive swim team, and practice and meet attendance is expected.

Joining the Swim Team Step Two: Registration

Once your swimmer passes their tryout and has been placed into a training group, you will need to register them with the team and with USA Swimming. Athletes must register with both in order to begin practicing.

Any swimmers transferring from another USA Swimming team must initiate a Club Transfer either on the USA Swimming app or on your landing page when you log into your account at www.usaswimming.org

Joining the Swim Team Step Three: New Parent Meeting

Information on When / Where / Time the New Parent Meeting will take place will be provided after the tryout by the coaching staff. This meeting is a requirement to be part of the swim team.
