Team Information

 

The JCC Stingrays is part a WFSL competitive swim team based out of the JCC of Mid-Westchester in Scarsdale, NY. WFSL, Westchester Fairfield Swim League, is our local tri-state area competitive league that is comprised of 13+ swim teams and growing! We are a team that prides itself on its dedication to developing new and experienced swimmers. We strive to make every child fall in love with swimming not just as a sport but a life long commitment to sportsmanship and good health. It is our goal to make each individual swimmer excel to the best of their ability with our age/ability specific training. 

 

Requirements to Join

Rookie Rays (Ages: Typically 6–10)

  • Must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke with good form, must be able to repeat (maybe be ask to repeat up to 4 times
  • Swimmers should use alternating arms throughout and avoid grabbing the lane line.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of either breaststroke and/or butterfly.
  • Ability to follow instructions and comfortability in the deep end.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a flip turn (not necessarily on a wall) or show knowledge of what a flip turn is.
  • Can demonstrate a fundamental knowledge of a forward dive from the edge of the pool.
  • You may be placed in either Rookie Rays 3, 2, or 1 depending on skill level and assessment.

Junior Rays (Ages: Typically 10–13)

  • Ability to swim 50 yards of freestyle and backstroke
  • Swim 50 yards of breaststroke and 50 yards of butterfly.
  • Can demonstrate the fundamentals of a forward dive from the edge of the pool or block.
  • Prepared to attend at least three practices per week.
  • You may be placed in either Junior Rays 3, 2, or 1 depending on skill level and assessment.

Senior Rays (Ages: 12+)

  • Must be able to swim 100 yards of all strokes uninterrupted.
  • 100 yards of freestyle and backstroke must be completed in under 1:50.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a standing dive or a starting dive off the block.
  • Prepared to practice 3–6 times per week, often with dryland training included.
  • You may be placed in either Senior Rays 3, 2, or 1 depending on skill level and assessment.
 

We expect swimmers to remain proactive and give their best effort each day. They also must be prepared for practice, bringing a water bottle and their equipment to each session
