Fox Valley Wave Happenings

We started 2014 with a big “Splash” and thanks to the Board and such a wonderful group of parent volunteers we are only going to continue that “Wave” of energy throughout the year.  Here are a number of updates of what’s happening:

USA Swimming/Wave Swim-A-Thon Saturday, April 26th - Participants earn money by swimming lengths of the swimming pool. Swimmers have a two-hour period in which to swim a maximum of 200 lengths. Swimmers get pledges from family, neighbors or businesses to support their efforts. Donors can either pledge a certain amount of money per length, or make a flat donation in support of our team.  There will be some pretty zany prizes to thank the kids for their efforts in and out of the pool.  Our goal this year will be to raise $10,000 that will continue to help us promote the growth, education and quality of the team.   Paul Vandenberg, Vice President [email protected] is heading up this event and will be looking for volunteers to help plan the event and also volunteer that day.

May-Fly Home Meet Friday, May 9th and Saturday, May 10th We are so excited about being able to host another home meet this year.   Please save the date on your calendar for your swimmer to swim and also to sign-up to volunteer.   Being a parent run team it is essential that everyone jump into help make this meet and any other of our team events successful.   We are looking forward to having everyone involved.   We are currently looking for volunteers to be a part of the meet planning committee.  If you are interested in helping please send an email to Debbie Cortina, Volunteer Coordinator [email protected]

Recognition of Best-Times – We have been looking to find ways to provide greater recognition in our bronze and silver groups to recognize their efforts in the pool and keep them motivated.   Starting with the summer season you will see a new program that will allow our coaches to provide the kids with a special recognition.  Enhanced Communication – Carolyn Eisele, Communication Coordinator [email protected] has put together a committee to help enhance the way we are able to share information and team happenings.   Look for changes coming in the coming months to our website, Facebook, team newsletter and on-going communication efforts.

Practice Group Team Building Events/Activities - Our mission as a team is to establish a culture of excellence which provides each swimmer the opportunity to achieve their highest personal goals in swimming and life.   To do that we recognize that we need to create opportunities for our swimmers to build solid relationships and foster teamwork.   In the coming months we will be putting together a committee of parents from the different age groups to help us put this together.  These opportunities will provide some fun opportunities especially for the younger groups, but will also have a focus on community service projects in the older age groups.   Look for more information to come from Kristy Hipp, Social/Event Coordinator [email protected] in the near future.

Senior Training Trip - It has been a goal to offer our senior swimmers an opportunity to experience this type of focused training trip.   Thanks to some significant efforts of planning and coordination by Mary Kohrell we are going to make that happen this summer.   An experience like this will provide our senior kids with a team building experience focused on plenty of hard work in the pool and on land, plus additional education opportunities that will help them on their holistic approach to becoming the best swimmer they can be.   We are excited to be taking the kids to the National Training Center in Clermont, FL on June 21st – 26th.

So, as you can see there are a lot of things happening with team.   Paul and I really want to thank all the members of the board, the parents who have stepped up to help on one of our committees or officiate at all those meets, and for who volunteer to help when the need is there.    Being a parent run organization requires that every family be willing to give time to the team. We are so thankful for the commitment and energy you all bring.
