Coaching Updates
Dear Wave Families,
As we head back into the spring/summer season – we would like you to be aware of some coaching changes and give you an overview of the total coaching line up.
Our fearless leader and Head Coach – Coach Curt Beutler has met with the coaches and has taken a lot of time to contemplate the right coaches for the various groups and skill levels. The main changes will come to the Silver and Senior Groups.
As has been previously communicated – our wonderful head coach of the Silver Group – Ruthe Zimmerman had to step down from coaching for personal reasons. While we will dearly miss Ruthe as lead coach – we are also so excited to inform you that Christine Latta and Amy Hopfensperger will be taking over as co-lead coaches of the Silver group! Christie has great energy for swimming and coaching! She also has a breath of experience in swimming that spans from high school to age group swimming. She has been acting as an assistant coach for the team over the past year and already knows the majority of the swimmers in the group. Amy began swimming competitively at the age of 8 when she started the Wave swim team with a total of 5 people on the team. They didn't even have a coach, but instead they had a friend's dad "coach" them. She continued her swimming days lettering for Neenah High School for 4 years along with being a team captain. She also has been assistant coach for the past season and is excited to pay it forward and continue her passion of swimming, especially since she is an "original" Wave member. Please join us in welcoming both Christie and Amy! We know they will do a fantastic job!
As a confirmation – the following groups lead coaches will remain the same:
Bronze – Kim Bjork
Gold – Greg Hollub
The senior group will also welcome a new coach. This season we will see two coaches for the overall Senior Group. Senior National – Curt Beutler, Senior – Jamie Schnurer.
Here is an excerpt from a previous email sent out by Coach Curt introducing our new lead coach for the senior group Jamie Schnurer:
The Senior group has been consistently split into different work out groups and coached by different coaches. This change allows us to be more consistent with coaching for all the swimmers in the pool as we will “hire” Jamie Schnurer as the lead coach for the Senior group. Coach Jamie has been with us for the past 5 ½ years and I am very excited for her to play a larger role with our team and especially the Senior level swimmers. She brings a wealth of knowledge with her as she grew up as a age group swimmer at the Fox Cities YMCA (I was fortunate enough to coach her during her last year of age group swimming), swam at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania prior to transferring to UW Madison to finish her degree in Dietetics. Jamie has been the head coach and assistant coach for Appleton North High School girls team for the past 7 years.

Our current roster of ALL our coaches and their bios can be found on the website by clicking on ‘coaches’ in the upper left side of the Home Page. This is where you can always go to be able to email coaches as well as Board Members (which are found at the bottom of the page)
Ruthe will be assessing her situation and will be filling in as she is able over the next season. She will also maintain her position as team administrator.
