For those in for Friday night, plan to arrive at 5:30P.  We'll meet athletes by our spectator area (Northeast Bleacher).  From there we'll begin to hand out equipment and answer last-minute questions.  For those of you interested in individual pictures, the meet photographer will be starting Wisconsin photos at 6:00.  More details lower on this table.

We'll have an open warmup from 6:30-7:15P.  For those arriving late, we can hand out equipment after warmups conclude.

Pictures

Pictures will be taken Friday night to start a composite team photo.  Opportunities will exist Saturday and Sunday morning for one-day-only folks to get added to the picture.  You do NOT need to be at the pool Friday night if your swimmer doesn't swim until Sunday!

Sports Photography (SP) will have two photo stations on deck set up beginning on Friday afternoon. SP will schedule team picture times that is more convenient for the teams coming on Friday to warm up. SP will photograph the remainder of the teams on Saturday morning. Times will be scheduled that can accommodate team warm-up times. SP will also have a booth set up in the upper concourse for late arriving athletes who wish to be part of the team photo. This same booth may be used to reserve action shots or take award photos.

Other Odds & Ends

The pool deck is one of the chilliest I've experienced -- definitely have your swimmer prepared with warm clothes.

There's a delicate balance between being part of one big team and your swimmer taking care of themselves by going out for food and rest.  It's not expected that they're present and on the bleachers for every heat.  Take them and return them as you please; make sure they're fed & hydrated.  These are two LONG days.

We humbly request that club team gear be kept to a minimum for the meet.  With a Team Wisconsin cap & shirt, you won't need too much of your own team stuff, but with things being cold a team parka and warmups will likely be necessary.

Meet Concept

The Mid States Championship meet is a Team Wisconsin Selection meet for swimmers ages 14 & Under.  Unlike the summer Central Zone Championships where any athlete with a qualifying time can enter the meet, participation in this meet is set by a selection process.

Meet Format

The meet is timed finals, with 4 entries from each LSC participating in every event.

Qualifying Times & Qualifying Period

Registration will open December 1st.

A swimmer may apply to be a member of Team Wisconsin provided they

  1. Achieved at least one USA "A" Motivational time at a sanctioned or high school competition between January 1st, 2025 and the meet entry deadline of Sunday, December 14th 2025.
  2. Are a member of USA Swimming in good standing and registered as a member of the Wisconsin LSC

NOTE: Boys currently in their freshman year of high school have been deemed ineligible to compete in this meet by the WIAA.  The words "All Star" in the meet disqualify them from being able to compete, as it's not a meet eligible for everyone.

Selection Process

Selection is done in 4 steps:

Step 1: Registration (Dec 1-Dec 14)

Registration is completed on the Team Wisconsin website from December 1st through December 14th.  Families need to register an athlete (like you would for your team's annual registration) for the TEAM, but do not need to register their athlete for the meet.

Step 2: Time Verification (Dec 15-17)

Once registration finishes, coaches will create a master list of times from all applicants.  This list will be sent to all families for proofing.  Parents will need to ensure that their swimmer's DOB, primary club, and best times are all accurate.

  • Correction to times being used: a swimmer must achieve an "A" cut from 1/1/2024 or later to participate, but all times will be used for consideration.  Rationale: A swimmer recovering from an injury that was fast enough to qualify with previous times but hasn't matched them this year would be ineligible.
  • Only SCY times will be considered, except for the selecting of the 1650 events where we'll look at the 1500FR LCM times and, if needed, 800FR LCM times
  • Once the list has been sent to families, they will have 36 hours to notify staff of changes

Step 3: Initial Selection (Dec 18-19)

After times have been verified, the coaching staff will begin the process of selecting swimmers for events.

  • 4 athletes will be selected for each event (excluding distance events)
  • When a swimmer reaches their maximum event allotment, we'll continue down the list until each event is filled.
  • We will select events to create a "balanced" meet for swimmers.  Examples: We will avoid back-to-back events where we can; we will try and balance the number of events a swimmer swims in any particular day.
  • We will try and be mindful of swimmers' strengths and weaknesses, but the goal for this meet is to create the best *team*.  It may mean that swimmers are in "off" events if that benefits Team Wisconsin the most.

Swimmers may be selected for as many as 5 events, as few as one, or not at all.  With limited spots and many applicants, there are lots of swimmers that will not be selected.  A roster size of 4 per event is very limiting in an LSC of 6000 athletes.

Upon completion of the initial event listing, we'll send it out to families.  Parents will have the ability to accept or decline their invitation.  As swimmers accept/decline, existing swimmers may be added into additional swims.  After the first day of changes and additions, no new athletes will be invited and entries will be added to the existing roster only to fill out their event lineup.

Step 4: Finalization of Roster & Relay Selection (Dec 20)

  • Upon finalization of the roster, we'll create a tentative relay roster.  This is subject to change, even once the meet starts. We'll select relays purely on times, no "gut feelings."  But as kids get sick, as racing happens during the meet, many things can affect the swimmers in a relay.
