2023 OW Zone Meet Team Wisconsin Update

Angela Monty

Good Morning,

I wanted to update you all after being notified that a "wetsuit optional" water temperature (68.0 degrees or below) is a potential on race day. This will be determined 2 hours before races begin on Friday at 6:30am.

The landing page has been updated with this information.

I understand that it could be a difficult turnaround to acquire a wetsuit for rent or otherwise in a short time, but that is the nature of open water swimming. We are dealing with the elements.

Here is the search link to find out which wetsuits (and any other swimsuits) are FINA approved: https://approved.swimwear.fina.org/

It is of my opinion that those who would aquire a wetsuit should wear a sleeveless so that we can still number mark the arms though we will be marking hands so sleeveless won't be required if we have wetsuit optional conditions.

Our safety coordinator is keeping our committee informed and we will be posting on the landing and news pages and sending out communications when we can. Please keep an eye out.

Whatever side of that temperature borderline we end up on either clinic day or race day, it would be smart for swimmers to wear layers and parkas to stay warm out of water while still hydrating well. It is better to be over prepared than under prepared.

Lastly, suit checks can be done after the clinic as part of the check in process If you need to find me on either day, I will be the coach with the mustache.

Thanks and I'm excited for Team WI to crush it Friday!
