Team Wisconsin Open Water Updates
Good Morning Team WI Open Water Families,
We are one day away from the Open Water Clinic and Two Days away from the Open Water Competition.
Here are some reminders and clarifications for the upcoming events.
There was a typo in our last communication and in some of the meet packet information stating that 13-14 and 11-12 ahtletes would be competing in a 3K event. The correct length is 2.5K and that has been corrected in this communciation.
- Thursday 6/16 is the Open Water Clinic 3:30 PM
- All Team Wisconsin Athletes are registered for the clinic.
- The clinic begins at 3:30 PM at the Lake Andrea Beach.
- Team WI would like the athletes there early so they are ready to go for the clinic
- Club caps may be worn at the clinic
- Thursday, June16th REGISTRATION - PACKET PICKUP Estimated time of 6-7:30 PM
- Following the completion of the clinic, the pre race registration will begin.
- Officials will check Athletes’ finger and toe nails to make sure their length is safe for race participation, upon approval, athletes will pick up their bag tags and race numbers.
- During the pre race check in, race number body marking assistance will be available.
- There is no longer a spaghetti dinner so if your athlete might need a snack or drink after the clinic, please pack them.
- Friday 6/17 Open Water Race Day
- There was some confusion about the race lengths due to some typos. To clarify:
- Open Age Groups Swim a 5K
- 13-14 Swim a 2.5K
- 11-12 Swim a 2.5K
- 10&U Swim a 1.25K
- Race Day Open and 13-14 Age Groups:
- 6:45 AM Registration and check-in will reopen for Open or 13-14 athletes that did not register on Thursday.
- 7:15 AM Team WI Photo on Beach with Open and 13-14 athletes
- 7:30–8:00AM: Course Open for Warm‐Up For Open and 13-14
- 8:00–8:15AM: Open and 13-14 Pre-Race Meeting-MANDATORY
- 8:30AM:First wave of 5K Begins
- Race Day 11-12 and 10&U age groups
- 9 AM: Registration and check-in will reopen for 11-12 2.5K and 10&U 1.25K
- 9:30 AM Team WI Photo on Beach with 11-12 and 10&U athletes
- 9:45-10:15 AM: Course Open for Warm-Up for 11-12 and 10&U
- 10:30-10:45 AM: 11-12 and 10&U Pre-Race Meeting- MANDATORY
- 11 AM First Wave of 11-12 2.5K

- All Participants Parents must complete the COVID Waiver:
- Swimmers' Gear
- It is going to be a normal WI day with a slight chill in the morning and warming up as the day goes on. Be prepared. Bring towels and layers. Hats and shoes are encouraged protection.
- Team Wisconsin T-shirts and Caps are available for all racers. Please check in at the WI Swimming Tent during the pre race check in on Thursday or Friday Morning to pick yours up.
- Swimmers should wear their Team WI caps during the race and Team WI shirts during the awards.
- The Safety of all participants is the top priority.
- All Athletes must have their event bag tags when they report to the beach for pre race check in.
- There will be boats and kayaks with lifeguards stationed along the swimming route.
- Please wear sun screen
- Team WI caps are Red to help keep visibility of all athletes during the race.
- During the pre race mandatory meetings the officials will go over all safety protocols and procedures with the athletes.
- Team Wisconsin Info:
- We will have our tent set up on the grassy area outside of the beach, to the right of the pavilion.
- If you have lawn chairs, tents, and athlete gear try to keep them in the Team WI area in the grass outside the fence. No lawn chairs or tents will be allowed on the beach.
- We plan to take a Team photo with the Open and 13-14 athletes at 7:15 AM and 11-12 and 10&U at 9:30 AM
- Our head coach is Coach George Guddie (SWAT)
- Our assistant coaches are Coach Ziggy Cornegan (JAG), Coach Carissa Donkersgoed (EBSC) and Coach Conner Andrews (LAKE)
- Our Team Manager is Coach Angela Monty (WI Swimming)

- Awards:
- Follow the end of each race, they will work too compile and distribute awards.
- 1-8 place are medals
- 9-16 are ribbons
- Please wear your Team WI shirts during the awards.
- General Reminders:
- Food: Please bring your own snacks and beverages to stay fueled and hydrated for the race. No concessions will be provided on site.
- Parking: The parking is in two small parking lots on either side of the beach or along the road.
- The Beach: The beach pavilion is across the lake from the Rec Plex building. Follow the signs to the beach.
- Sunscreen: We encourage the use of sunscreen during the event, after the body markings have been applied.
