2025 Mid States All Star Update #6 - The Final Email!
We’re nearing the travel day for Mid States 2025. Here’s my last email to help everyone with their packing and preparation.
-
First, remember that we’re leaving the Central Time Zone for this one.
-
Hats off to you guys--we’re the only LSC that didn’t have any expired registrations or any other recon errors -- well done!
-
So far, we’ve had zero late scratches. But my word, are there sick kids everywhere. If your swimmer does come down with something, please let me know. If we know things early enough, I’m able to move around relays and individual events.
-
The psych sheet and timeline have been posted to our event page.
-
Also on the event page, I’ve adjusted arrival times for both Saturday morning & Sunday morning. Since we’re limited to 2 lanes, we’ll stagger warmups and arrival times.
-
I believe Nancy has billed all families. If you have questions, shoot her an email. [email protected]
-
The facility at IU Indy is a top 3 in the nation facility. It’s hosted some of the best meets in the world. Some things you’ll need to know:
-
It’s been historically the chilliest pool deck I’ve ever been on. I’ve coached comfortably in long sleeves and pants. That means a swimmer will get cold easily. Come prepared with different costume changes and warm items for long sessions.
-
The site has huge amounts of seating on either side. Genuinely, far more seating than this meet requires. So you don’t need to break down the gate to get in and have a great seat. They keep LSCs together so as your swimmers are making new friends, maybe it’d be a great time for you to talk to someone from a new area of the state.
-
Photos are an ordeal for this meet.
-
There will be a Friday session for individual photos
-
There will be a Saturday AM session where we try to pull off a team photo
-
And there will be a Sunday session for folks that missed the team photo, so they can get cropped into the photo.
-
I’ve tried to put the whole process on the event page. It wasn’t clear earlier, I apologize.
-
-
Apparel
-
Your swimmer will be receiving a Team Wisconsin cap & shirt. Candidly, having not done this meet for several years…it used to be more. I’ll try to ensure more gear for 2026.
-
-
Sunday Relays
-
Barring illness/injury, Saturday relays are set. However, we’ll look at Sunday relays to see if anything needs to change based on Saturday swims. We’ll have those posted in our area Sunday morning at the start of warmup.
-
-
Check In
-
Each of the four coaches will be responsible for 25% of the swimmers. Please have your swimmer check in with them at the start of each day. We’ll let you know during equipment pickup who is with which coach. If you’re taking your swimmer out to eat between events, back to the hotel, whatever--let that particular coach know.
-
-
Specific Coaching
-
If you’ve ever watched a Pro-Bowl or NBA All Star Game, the coaching for those events is pretty minimal but supportive. It’s bad form for us to try and change stroke technique of kids on other teams. If my breaststroker went to a meet with another coach and came back with a new breaststroke,I’d not send them to that meet anymore. So, we’ll keep things very general and race-specific with advice. That being said, if your swimmer wants a fresh set of eyes on something in particular, please have them mention something to their coach. We’ll be happy to give our 2 cents! Before and after each race, have them check in with their assigned coach for some general chat and just to let us know that your swimmer is ready to go.
-
I think that does it for now. We’ll see most of you Friday.
Michael
