Marcus Longton 18U Boys Head Coach

Marcus Longton is a highly accomplished water polo  coach  with a distinguished playing career that spans all levels of the sport. His journey began at the very first CCU practice as an 11-year-old, where he was among the first generation of athletes to progress through all age groups of the club. He earned All-American honors at Campolindo High School before a successful four-year tenure with the USC Men's Varsity Water Polo team, where he garnered both All-American and All-MPSF accolades. Marcus then pursued a professional career in Spain's highest division, contributing significantly to his team's qualification for the prestigious Euro League. Marcus currently is member of the Olympic Club and competes on the open team.  His  coaching  experience is equally comprehensive, having led teams at every age level from 10U to his current role as Head  Coach  of the 18U boys. This extensive experience, from youth development to elite competition, provides him with a unique and valuable perspective on the game

Matthew Detrane 18U Boys Coach

Matt  is curently the head men’s and women’s water polo coach and Aquatics Director at CSU Maritime Academy.  Matt  played his high school waterpolo at Campolindo High School, then played at DVC before finishing his collegiate career ar Pepperdine as a 4 time All-American. He then played on the USA Mens national team until 2018.  Matt  also played professionally in Europe in Budva, Montenegro, then Bogliasco, Italy for 4 years.

Matt has been coach at CCU since 2014. He has coached the 16U prgram in 2015 and became the 18U head coach in 2016. His 18U teams have placed well in the National JO Championships: placing 7th in 2018, 3rd in 2019, (2020 COVID Cancelled) winning the National Championship in 2021. The 18U Returned to the Medal podium in 2023 placing 3rd. Matt has welcomed 2 children to his family this past year- he has remained active with the 18U team with film evaluation and helping players with college recruitment.

Jack Brown 18U Assistant Coach

Jack has been coaching at CCU since he graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2018. He played club water polo at Cal Poly and also spent two years as the head coach of the women’s club team.  After earning his degree he returned home and played two more seasons for DVC under head coach  Matt  Detrane. Aside from coaching polo, Jack runs Aqua Strength Performance, his strength training business, where he works with many of the CCU athletes and other water polo players and swimmers in the area to improve their overall health and performance.
 

Patrick Reid 16U & 18U Girls Coach

Patrick Reid  is a graduate of UC Berkeley, where he won two NCAA Men’s Water Polo championships. He was an All-American and Team Captain. He played for two legendary coaches—Pete Cutino and Steve Heaston. In high school in Merced, CA, he was a three-time All-American. In 2015, he was inducted into Merced High School’s Inaugural Hall of Fame. He continues to play water polo with the Olympic Club. He has been coaching the girls’ water polo team at Acalanes since 2007, and helped with the boys’ program for several years prior.

Misha Buchel 16U & 18U Girls Coach
Misha began playing water polo at Clayton Valley High School in Concord where he was a 1st Team All-NorCal player.  He graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in Bioengineering. In 2002, he began coaching the boys’ and girls’ teams at La Costa Canyon High School in Carlsbad, CA and started the La Costa Water Polo Club. He moved back to NorCal in 2005 and was hired as the Acalanes Girls’ Varsity Head Coach, where he has coached NCS and CIF-NorCal championship teams. In 2021 he was named the NCS Girls Water Polo Honor Coach. He teaches math and engineering at Acalanes, where he was named Teacher of the Year in 2012.  
 
Tor Jensen 16U Boys Head Coach

Tor has been coaching with CCU since 2012 and currently serves as the Head Coach of the 16U team. A graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, Tor was a four-year member of the Division I water polo team and earned MPSF Academic All-American honors.  In recognition of his impact on the sport, he received the Pacific Zone Ted Newland Distinguished Coaching Award in 2021. Tor has coached four teams to top-five finishes at the Junior Olympics, including the 2024 season where his 16U team placed 3rd at both the Junior Olympics and the Future's Super Finals. Tor continues to inspire and develop young athletes, fostering both competitive excellence and personal growth within the CCU program.

 
Brodie Jasper 14U Boys Head Coach

Brodie  joined the CCU coaching staff in 2012 and is the Boys 14u Head Coach.  He has coached at the high school level for the Acalanes and Monte Vista coaching staffs. He has been the Berkeley High Boys Varsity Head Coach and since 2023 has been the Campolindo High Boys Varsity Head Coach .  Since 2015 he has coached with the USA Water Polo Olympic Development Program (ODP) in the Pacific Zone as a Cadet Assistant and Head Coach.  Currently he is an Assistant Coach with the Cadet National Team.  In 2019 he was the Pacific and National recipient of the Ted Newland Distinguished Coach award. Brodie has developed many of the successful CCU players, focusing on fundamental and character development. His teams routinely are some of the best in the country and compete at the highest level.

Nick Jordan 12U Boys Head Coach

Nick Jordan is currently the 12u boys head coach and the Acalanes High School Mens Water Polo program Head Coach. Nick played his college water polo at UCSB, training with the USA Water polo National Senior team during this time. He played professionally in Germany for 1 year. Nick has been the head coach of the 12U program for the past 2 years- his teams have been the highest finishing Norcal 12U team at the National championships the past 2 years. In 2024 the 12U boys team placed 4th at the National JO Championships- just losing in the semi-finals.

Soren Jensen 12U Boys Coach

Soren Jensen began his water polo journey at just 7 years old, where he quickly developed a passion for the game, following in his family’s footsteps. He attended Campolindo High School, winning NCS back-to-back in his junior and senior seasons. Continuing his career at Stanford University, Soren became a key contributor and leader for the Cardinal. In his final season, he led the team in both goals and assists while earning First Team All-Conference honors. After Stanford, Soren took his talents abroad to play professionally with the Napoli Lions in Italy, gaining valuable international experience in one of the sport’s most competitive environments. Soren is currently a member of the Olympic Club and competes on the open team.

Soren has coached with CC United part-time throughout his college career and is now fully involved. He has experience as both a head coach and an assistant coach across all age groups. Soren is dedicated to sharing his knowledge and passion with the next generation. He emphasizes fundamentals, teamwork, and creativity above all else, and is excited to continue coaching at CC United.

Hannah Jensen 12U Girls Coach

Hannah has been coaching both girls and boys for CCU since 2019 and launched the 12U girls team in 2022. She is deeply dedicated to supporting the youth of our community through her roles as a Stanley Middle School teacher and a CC United coach. Prior to joining CCU, she spent two years at Thousand Oaks High School as the head JV coach and assistant varsity coach. A former Division III water polo player at California Lutheran University, Hannah was recognized as a SCIAC Academic All-American.

 
Hannah Ortiz 12U Girls Coach

I grew up playing club polo in Nor Cal and went on to attend Fresno State University where I earned a Bachelors degree in Psychology. During my time at Fresno State, I played for the university’s club water polo team. After moving over to the bay, I began coaching at CCU, where I’ve been for about a year, primarily working with the 12u girls! In addition to club, I also coached at Campolindo High School working the JV boys and girls team.

Andrew Churukian 10U Head Coach

Andrew has been immersed in water polo since childhood, beginning his career with Stanford Club, where he helped capture two Junior Olympic Championships over his club career. At Sacred Heart Preparatory, he won four CCS Championships and a North vs. South Championships, helping to establish the Gators as one of the top ranked high school teams in the nation. He went on to play Center for four years at Stanford University, where he won one NCAA Championship and two MPSF Conference Championships. He began his CCU coaching career in 2025 and is excited to share his water polo knowledge and skills with the CCU family.

Kirk Jensen 12U & 16U Assistant Coach

Kirk founded CC United Water Polo in 2010 to help expand water polo in the East Bay, to emphasize character deveopment, and offer opportunity for multi-sport athletes to participate and focused athletes to achieve their maximum athletic potential. He continues to be involved with 12U Boys and 16U Boys program.
