Oak Square Dolphins

About the Team

The YMCA Competitive swimming programs are for swimmers who have the basic swimming skills (floating, freestyle/front crawl technique, ability to swim 2 lengths without stopping or touching the wall, breath holding for 10 seconds, treading water for 30 seconds), and wish to learn additional strokes, improve techniques and/or swim competitively as part of a team.

Swimming here at the Oak Square YMCA is more than just an individual activity and the swim team helps build relationships and prepare swimmers for future competitive swimming careers. The Oak Square Dolphins are revitalizing the team to place more emphasis on the team, increase our presence in the competitive swimming community and set our swimmers up for success. In order to do this, our team will:

  • Participate in weekly practices and formal swim meets

  • We practice up to 4 days per week. We reserve several lanes and teach general lap swimming etiquettes, such as circle swimming, personal space, lane passing, diving from the block, flip turns, and use of the flags and lane markings.

  • We have a strong team focus and are constantly working to keep communication flowing freely, with team emails with announcements of upcoming team events.
