About the Mansfield Area Y Waves:
Mansfield Area Y Waves is a winter-season competitive swimming program. In the fall/winter season, our club competes in the Northeast Ohio (NEO) YMCA League and for the Mansfied Area Y. Your children have to maintain a YMCA membership to participate on the YMCA swim team. Our team participates in Dual Meets throughout the season against other clubs in the NEO League as well as Invitationals.
At the end of the winter season, if your child has participated in a minimum of 3 meets: either 3 dual meets a combination of 2 dual meets and 1 invitational, they qualify for NEO Division Champs. From there, the top 30 (or top 20 for those 13 & older) in each event go on to qualify for the NEO League Champs.
Following League Champs, there is the Great Lakes Zone Championships which is comprised of top swimmers from OH,MI,KY,IN and WV. Swimmers can qualify by meeting time standards throughout the season. The event is split up by the following age groups: 10&u, 11/12, 13/14, 15&over/Senior.
The top championships in YMCA swimming is the National YMCA Short Course Championships, held typically the first week of April. Swimmers can qualify for this meet by being 12y/o or older and meeting set time standards throughout the season.
