The mission of the YMCA of Greater Richmond is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. As volunteers through the YMCA organization, it is our intention that we continue to support the greater mission as well as use our members and parents for the greater cause and benefit of our swim team.
Our Summer swim team, the Sandston Stingrays, is a part of the James River Aquatic Club swim league. This league requires the volunteers in the following positions to be trained/certified:
Starter: Responsible for starting each race, which helps keep the pacing of the meet on track.
Strokes & Turns Judge: Watches all races for any rules infractions, disqualifications.
Referee: Ensures a fair competition, oversees other officals and settles any disputes.
Head of Clerk of Course: Oversees the organization of swimmers as they await their events.
Head Table: Helps organize results as they come in and oversees their entry into the computer.
Head Timer: Responsible for overseeing other timers and steps in if there are any malfunctions or user error with stopwatches.
***As a smaller team, it is extremely important that we have enough trained volunteers so that it does not fall on the same few individuals to work every meet. If we all do our part we can fill these positions without feeling overworked. ***
