Coaches and Directors

Kevin Blum started with YSCB Barracudas in
Fall of 2025.
Kevin has spent 18 years coaching year-round club
swimming, starting a team in the Los Angeles area with one 10
yr-old swimmer in 2001, and growing to 150+ with the team
regularly finishing in the Top-8 at the SCS Junior Olympics,
and with swimmers competing at Junior and Senior Nationals, as
well as the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Trials, and as part of the USA
National Team and National Junior Team. At the same time
he was also managing and teaching learn-to-swim
lessons, lifeguarding, running swim camps, and coaching
Masters, high school, and middle school
teams. He
earned the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA)
‘Award of Excellence’ in 2010, 2011, and 2012.
In 2013 Kevin had moved on and took the Head Coaching role at the Coronado-Navy Swim Team in San Diego, and was named to the USA National Team Staff for the 4th time, being selected to Coach TEAM USA in International competition in Russia at the World University Games. He then moved on to take a Head Coaching role in Australia with the Surrey Park Swim Club, and also later coached with the Marlins of Raleigh, a 600 member team in North Carolina which brought 13 swimmers to the 2016 Olympic Trials.Kevin decided to move into college coaching in 2019 and spent 2 years at Boston College, 2 years as the Associate Head Coach at The University of Hawaii, and 1 year at the University of Arizona.
Kevin grew up in Fremont, CA (San Fransisco east bay) and swam for a fantastic club Coach, Debbie Potts. The top training group practiced 10 times per week and everyone hated missing practice because of how great the frienships on the team were, and he hopes to build the same team bonding opportunities here in Snohomish county. It would not have been so special, fun, and rewarding if it wasn't such a big commitment that the kids CHOSE to take on, and it remains the foundation of his passion for coaching today. Kevin also swam collegiately at California State University, Northridge.

I’m a lifelong swimmer and coach with 10 years of experience across multiple YMCAs in several states, primarily leading dual-chartered YMCA and USA Swimming teams. I’ve served as Head Coach of two programs and held multiple aquatics leadership roles, helping programs grow competitively while supporting swimmers of all levels. Over the past few years, I’ve had the honor of serving as a USA Zones and All-Star Coach, as well as coaching multiple athletes who have gone on to compete at the national level. I love coaching because it allows me to help young people build confidence, learn life skills, and develop into their best selves. I’m excited to be part of the Snohomish YMCA team, serving also as the Lesson Instructional Excellence Director to strengthen swim lessons across the association while also creating a pathway to competitive swimming.
