The Manta Rays swim team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

 

You will complete a swim assesment to determine the group the swimmer will be in. 

 

Manta Ray Team Descriptions

Intro to swim team-- Wondering what it is like on swim team?  This class is for you. Improve on stroke mechanics, turns, starts, learn how to dive off the blocks and improve endurance. All with the goal of being stronger on swim team skills. Must have completed 1 session of level 5 swimming or be a current member of swim team. Runs with swim lesson session dates and meets once per week.

Junior Rays -  5 years of age and passed level 4 swim lessons.

For the beginning and novice swimmers.  This level is for the swimmer who needs to develop skills but wants to also be part of a team atmosphere.  Must be 5 years of age or older, passed level 4 of swim lesson and have coach's approval.  Must be able to swim multiple 25 yard lengths of front crawl demonstrating that they know how to do rotary breathing and have a foundation for Back, Breast and Butterfly.  Swimmer must also be enrolled in swim lessons to help in development proper swim strokes.  Swims with team one time per week and 1 swim lesson class per week.

 

Rays White – 6 years of age and up.

Must be approved by Swim Coaching Staff.    Must be able to swim multiple 25 yard lengths of front crawl and backstroke; demonstrating that they know how to do rotary breathing and have a legal foundation Breast, Butterfly and diving off the block.  Swimmer is expected to have the maturity to participate in team activites without constant monitoring.  Must have good listening skills and be able to take instruction from coaches.  Practices are offered two times per week.  Swimmers can expect to swim 800 to 1500 yards on a given night. Ray White are welcome to participate in home swim meets with the option by coach’s approval to do away meets.

 

Rays Navy - Ages 9 and up OR under age 9 with coaches approval.

For the Competitive Swimmer who as passed out of Rays White.  Must be approved by coaching staff.  Must be able to swim all four competitive strokes, know how to do turns and exchanges.  Rays Navy will continue to build off the Rays White foundation and start to learn more advanced stroke work, breakouts, turns and advanced diving off the starting block.  Start to build endurance through longer swims sets and core workouts.   Must show maturity and good listening skills to advance out of navy. Swimmers can expect to swim 800 to 1500 yards on a given night. Rays Navy are offered four practices a week.  Rays Navy are welcome to participate in home swim meets and encouraged to participate in away meets.

 

Rays Silver- Ages 9 and up with coaches approval.

For the Competitve Swimmer who has demonstracted maturity to advance in skills.  Swimmers in this group are able to demonstrate more advanced techniques with all strokes, starts and turns.  Focus will continue to be on developing proper technique wile adding work to improve endurance. Must show maturity, good listening skills to pass out of Rays Silver. During the allotted time, swimmers can expect to swim 1500 to 2500 yards on a given night with some of the sets on time.  Highly encouraged to compete in all meets.

 

Rays Gold—Ages 14 and over with coaches approval.

For the Upper Level Competitive Swimmer.  Must be approved by coaching staff.  Swimmer must display a strong internal motivation, strive for excellence, show a commitment to attendance, high maturity level and listening skills.   Must be efficient in all strokes.  Workouts are designed to allow swimmers to maximize yardage through longer sets and shorter intervals while fine tuning strokes. Swimmers may be asked to be mentors and to lead lower level swim practices. Focus will be placed on injury prevention and specific tehniques needed for individual events. Given the rigor of the workouts, the age is set at 14 to ensure swimmers have the maturity and physical ability to keep up and safly participate. Swimmers can expect to swim 2500 - 4000 yards on a given night. It is highly encouraged and recommended Rays Gold participate in ALL meets offered to the team.
