Mary Gibson (Head Coach)

At age twelve Mary started swimming, qualifying for the 1972 Olympic Trials four years later.  Mary was the first woman in Connecticut to break 1:00 in the 100 fly. She went on to swim at Virginia Commonwealth University as a freshman and then transferred to the University of Connecticut as a sophomore. While at UConn she earned All American honors twice.  In 2010 she was inducted into the University of Connecticut Sports Hall of Fame.  After college she swam for the Pensacola Masters, where she met future husband, Kevin.  Mary coached summer league swimming for several years and the Upper Montgomery County Y Masters in the 1980s and then at the Curl Burke swim club, a USS swim team based in the Washington, DC area.

In 2013, Mary received the distinguished U.S. Masters Swimming Kerry O'Brien Coaching Award.

Mary's focus is on stroke technique as well as interval training for the team.  She welcomes new swimmers as well as triathletes who would like to improve their technique for open water competition.
