Hi Team,
Hope you are all well, safe and training at the highest level your local situation allows.
Last week the ICF cancelled pretty much all the international events they govern through August. The Hungarians have submitted a proposal to the ICF to hold a Senior World Championships in September, and a decision is expected within a couple of weeks. Olympic Hopes is still on the schedule for September 18-20 in Szeged, Hungary.
The ACA is working diligently to hold a Nationals in Bethel, OH. Alternative dates late in August are being considered. That decision will be made just as soon as some details can be sorted out.
For training, I posted 2 files today. https://dhcanoekayak.org/athletes
- 2020_ACA_Training_Model is an overview of possible training between now and targeted races. Some assumptions had to be made as to when and where targeted races will be held, so I took my best guess. There are 3 sets of plans leading to the 3 targeted races - Senior Worlds, OHR and Nationals. Please see ACA_Training_Plan, just above this document, for more details on how this is derived.
- 2020-04-13_ACA_Training is a sample of this week's workouts. For dates, I use Year-Month-Day format because it sorts better. Monday through Wednesday are off because it's the beginning of a Block following what would have been Team Trials, so athletes have a few days of extra rest that they normally would not get between Blocks. Generally, we have two one-week breaks each year - the week following the targeted race and Christmas weeks. We also have two 3-4-day breaks following Trials and Nationals. Otherwise training is six days per week for Seniors, U18 and U16, every week. High-level U14 traing year-round 4-5 days per week and the rest of U14 train seasonally, March through October up to 4 days per week.
Remember to always work with your coach to develop you personalized training plan. What is posted here is simply a model that you may or may not wish to incorporate into your training.
I'm happy to answer questions.
Be safe, healthy and fit!
All the best,
Dan Henderson
