Our Coaching Team

Addie and Bill first started swimming together when Addie was a competitive swimmer and Bill was her coach. Early on, Bill recognized Addie’s commitment to technique as well as her ability to connect with the younger swimmers on the team. During Addie’s senior year of high school, she wanted to become a coach, and it was a perfect fit for her. Addie and Bill have been coaching together ever since. Their team approach to coaching is focused on striking the right balance between competition and fun. They can often be found planning the next fun event or new improvement for the team. They both come from families that have always been committed to programs and resources for youth in our community.

When coaches have fun working together, it rubs off on the swimmers. Addie and Bill are excited to bring this coaching partnership to the Addison Otters and are looking forward to a great winter season!

Some fun facts about Addie and Bill:

  • Both of them swam for the Addison Otters when they were younger.
  • Both of them have family members on the team.
  • They take an annual selfie each summer. It’s a tradition that started during a swim team trip to Hampton Beach.
  • Bill has known Addie since she was a baby (Bill is the old coach).
  • They both graduated from the same high school and both went to UVM.

Addie Brooks

Addie started swimming for a competitive team when she was 6 years old and began with the Otters when she was 8. She has now been coaching for 4 years and enjoys creating a fun and supportive environment where swimmers love coming to practices and meets.

Addie also has experience as a lifeguard and swim instructor and has been a leader in many youth programs in the area. She is currently pursuing a degree in early childhood education at UVM.

Addie has two sisters, both of whom swam for the Otters. One of Addie’s sisters is still on the team.

Addie’s coaching approach focuses on positive mentoring as much as it does on technique and conditioning. She understands the important role coaches play in the development of young people. At swim meets, Addie can always be found cheering on her swimmers and providing emotional support and encouragement before big races.

Bill Clark

Coach Bill swam for the Sheehan Titans and Wallingford YMCA Dolphins as a high school swimmer in Connecticut. He swam for the Otters after moving to Vermont in 1992. He loves sprint swimming and competed at a national level in the 50 meter freestyle. Bill began coaching age-group swimmers when he was 15. He also works as a lifeguard instructor and has been president of the Champlain Valley Swim League since 2017.

All of Bill's four kids were Otters swimmers at one point (one of his kids still swims with the team).

Bill often nerds out reading journal articles on exercise physiology and the science of competitive swimming. He is always looking for ways to improve the team’s training methods and still swims as a USA Masters Swimmer. He loves finding creative ways to keep practices fun and believes that it’s always a good day when you get to swim!
