Weekly News and Practice Information - Week of 04/23/2023
Congratulations: To our newly elected KNIK Learn To Swim Board of Directors; Jenna Winship - President, Tracy Rauenhorst - Vice President, Nicole Leon - Treasurer, Nicola Snow - Secretary, Jenny Kosin - Member at Large, Jenny Amundson - Member at Charge. Thank you to all of them for stepping forward to serve and to our members who voted.
Big News: Some months ago the Municipality of Anchorage approached CAC about taking over the management of Bartlett Pool. An agreement has been reached and our stewardship of Bartlett will commence on June 1st. While this arrangement will bring new challenges and costs, it will also come with increased opportunity. In particular, we will have increased flexibility scheduling our programs including offerings during the day. The monthly sign in for May includes some questions on member preferences or interest for programming this summer. Our goal is to get feedback from everyone so that we can plan staffing. Please take a moment to complete this survey to communicate your swimmer’s status for May as well as your participation interest for the summer. We plan to communicate a summer schedule by May 15th.

Practice This Week: We will have normal practice/Lessons times on M/T/W. There will be no practice on Thursday or Friday at either location in lieu of the Alaska Swimming State Championship.
May Hiatus: Lessons through Gold groups will have a practice/lessons hiatus from May 24th through May 31st. Our summer program will commence on June 1st.
Volunteers:
We need additional timers and volunteers for the Alaska Swimming State Championships this weekend. There are many timing slots available and we need hospitality help on Sunday. Please visit the events page to sign up.
Alaska Junior Olympics (name renamed Alaska Swimming State Championship): Bartlett April 27th, 28th and 29th. 52/54 signed up so far: Good luck to our championship team as they go for the threepete. We have 52 qualified swimmers participating along with 12 additional relay athletes. We are so very proud of the efforts these swimmers have made to qualify for and prepare for this meet. Go Chinooks!
Shorebird Invite: May 12th and 28th in Homer, AK. 7 signed up: This is a great all—comers meet for those who love the vibe in Homer. It also coincides with the shorebird festival so bird watchers may enjoy this opportunity.
Midnight Sun Invite: June 9th and 10th in Fairbanks, AK. 4 signed up: Unlike in winter, the weather in Fairbanks is quite temperate to hot during the summer. This meet is usually swum in short course meters. Stay tuned for information as it becomes available.
