Weekly News and Practice Information - Week of 04/23/2023

Congratulations:  To our coaches who were nominated for coach of the year (Colny Tucker, Age Group Coach, Anne Williams (Age Group Coach), Bryce Carpenter (Senior Coach).  Anne Williams was selected as Age Group Coach of the Year.  These coaches nominating write-ups have been included with their bios HERE.

Congratulations to Karson Kolberg (Frontier Charter School) who is our first graduate to walk the stage this year.  Still to come:  Bartlett:  James Cranford, Chugiak:  Maira Girbacea, Megan Sutton, Reuben Dobson, Elise Petrie and Quinn Morgan.

Congratulations, as well, to Wendy Kolberg who was selected Alaska Swimming’s Volunteer of the year.  The following is her nominating write-up:

Wendy has been an integral support to Alaska Swimming over the past years.  Currently she serves on the ASI Board, the Technical Planning Committee, the Central Area Board and the Chugiak Aquatics Club Board.  In addition to the considerable work performed in these postings, she has continually served as Meet Director among other facilitator roles for large and small scale USA Swimming and High School Meets.  The sum of her volunteer work easily adds up to a full time job which she successfully executes on top of a highly engaged teaching career.  There are an indispensable few who keep the engine of Alaska Swimming running, who fill in the hidden places and tasks that few would even be aware of.  These are the folks whose phone contact lists are filled with the network of helpers we find at the nexus of every event, every meeting, every meet and, for whom the casual observer might only see 10% of the work that is done.  Wendy Kolberg is undoubtedly one of these folks and she deserves recognition for the work she is doing to bring swimming to the young athletes here in Alaska.
