Weekly News and Practice Information - Week of 7/31/23

 

Congratulations:  To Wes Mank who participated in the Futures Meet in Sacramento this week.  Wes achieved best times across the board in this long course event and was a hair’s breadth away from breaking a state record in the 50 meter freestyle.

There will be no practice or lessons at Bartlett on Monday evening this week.  Lessons families are encouraged to select another day this week or the next as a makeup day.  Thank you for your patience.

 

Beginning Wednesday when high school practice begins, there will be a college level practice at 8:30 this week that will continue through the 11th.

 

The following are know high school practice times beginning Wednesday this week:

  • Chugiak - 2:30-4:30 at Chugiak
  • Eagle River - 2:30-4:30 at Bartlett
  • Bartlett - 2:30-4:30 at Bartlett
  • East - 2:30-4:30 at Bartlett
  • West - 12:00-2:00 at Bartlett
  • South -  4:30-6:30 at Service
  • Colony -  M/W/TH 2:30-5:30, T/F 4-5:30 at Palmer Pool

Beginning August 14th:  During high school season there will be no Friday practices owing to high school meets.  Friday practice will return the after high school state the first week of November.

 

Bartlett:

  • College and High School 10 Practice Makeup Swim W-F 8-10 AM, Saturday 8:30-10:30 AM. (Remember that High School may not count a second practice in one day as one of the ten required)
  • Gold: M-TH (4:30-6:00)
  • Silver: M-TH (4:30-6:00)
  • Bronze: M-TH (5:00-6:00). Watch for changes (increased time) being considered here - TBA
  • Stroke School: M-TH (5-6 PM)
  • Lesson Level 3/4: (5:10-6:00 PM)
  • Lessons M/W or T/TH: 4:50 PM or 5;30 PM
  • (Note: we are giving consideration to lessons and practice options on Saturdays.  More news to come)

 

Chugiak PM (M-TH)

  • Gold: 4:30-6:00 PM
  • Silver: 4:30-6:00 PM
  • Bronze 5-6 PM, Watch for changes (increased time) being considered for Bronze - TBA
  • Stroke School: 5-6 PM

High School Season is, Unbelievably, Nearly Here: We are proud to have swimmers on several high school teams including Colony, Chugiak, East and Eagle River.  The following are a few things to keep in mind as the season approaches:

 

  • First day of practice:  August 2nd.  Athletes must have a golden ticket certifying completion of all sign-up requirements in order to participate.
  • Signing Up: Find information about sign-up HERE. (Note: It is important you make an appointment for the required physical early on as these appointments fill quickly with athletes preparing for participation.)
  • Practice Locations: Chugiak is at Chugiak Pool, East and Eagle River will be at Bartlett Pool
  • Schedule:  The Anchorage School District Swim/Dive schedule is located HERE. (View Sched1 Only)
  • To participate in the first meet, all athletes must attend 10 practices (not including the day of the meet)
  • CAC Status:  All high school athletes are automatically placed into inactive status for August through October.  Any high school swimmer may opt to participate in our supplemental offering of 2 technique practices (Days and times TBD - likely one weekday and Saturday AM) and up to three weight room practices (Arctic Iron M/W/F @ 5:45 AM) each week.  The cost is $100/month. Dues and Fees Update Reminder:  As shared in the past week, we are making changes to our dues structure in order to keep the program viable into the next year.  This is the first change in over 2 years.  You can view the changes and their implementation dates HERE (Hit “Jump to Fee Section” ).  This month you will note changes in the inactive fee (decrease but inclusion of lesson swimmers and the beginning of our yearly $50 maintenance fee.

Note, many of these dates are tentative as schedule are in development.  Please mark your calendars for these meets (especially the championship meets.

  • Alaska Summer Champs, July 21st-23rd (52 Entered Athletes): Entries are in and we look forward to a successful meet.
  • State Fair Invite, Palmer, August 12, 2023 (Info coming soon) - all comers
  • Fall Equinox, Bartlett, September 23rd - all comers
  • Fall Harvest Invite, Bartlett (Hosted by CAC) October 20th and 21st - all comers
  • Alaska IMX, Bartlett, (Date TBD but likely either Nov. 17th/18th or Dec. 1st/2nd) - all comers
  • Central Area Champs, Bartlett, December 8th-10th:  Qualification times for this championship meet are being updated and will be coming soon.
  • Winter Splash, Bartlett (Hosted by CAC) January 5th and 6th - all comers
  • 10U State Championship PostalLikely date January 12th and 13th, all 10 and under swimmers
  • Senior Champs, Bartlett, January 26th-28th (Long Course) - Qualification Meet
  • Age Group Champs, Ketchikan, February 23rd-25th - Qualification Meet. (Consider booking flights and hotels early).
  • Alaska Swimming State Championship, Bartlett, April 26th-28th, Qualification Meet.

We will be reserving rooms for Age Group Champs soon but families are welcome to do so on there own.  The sooner the better for airline tickets and hotel rooms is critical.
