Photography Policies

Purpose

The safety and privacy of children participating in sports are of utmost importance. While most photography is appropriate and done in good faith, it’s essential to implement common-sense procedures to prevent misuse and protect children from potential risks.

Policy Guidelines

1.    Parental Consent

•    Photographs or videos of swimmers under 18, whether published on notice boards, in articles, or as part of video recordings (including livestreams), should only be taken and shared with prior parental consent via a signed consent form.

•    Parents or guardians have the right to refuse consent for photography. Refusal of consent cannot be used as grounds to deny a swimmer’s entry into a competition.

•    Clubs must provide a form allowing parents to indicate their refusal of consent.

2.    Notification of Photography at Events

•    For open meets and other competitions with an official photographer, parents must be informed in advance via meet information.

•    If photos are intended for publication, parents should be given the opportunity to withhold their consent, and this right must be clearly communicated to them.

3.    Standards of Decency

All photographs must adhere to accepted standards of decency:

•    Action shots should celebrate the sport and avoid any inappropriate or sexualized imagery.

•    Photographs must not capture or retain images of swimmers with torn or displaced swimsuits.

•    No photographs should be taken from behind the starting blocks or of swimmers climbing out of the pool.

•    Absolutely no photography is allowed in locker rooms or bathrooms.

By following these guidelines, we aim to maintain a safe and respectful environment for all swimmers.
