SEWICKLEY SEA DRAGONS SWIM TEAM
At the Sewickley Y Youth Swim Team, we are committed to developing young swimmers by providing a challenging environment for advanced athletes and nurturing support for beginners. Our goal is to help each swimmer reach their full potential as individuals, teammates, and athletes, all within a competitive and fun atmosphere. We strive to cultivate a lifelong love for swimming, fostering personal growth and a sense of community among our swimmers.
2025 SUMMER SEASON
SEASON runs June 2 to August 1, No practice on Friday, July 4th.
TRAINING GROUPS AND PRACTICE SCHEDULE
Training group is determined by swimmer's age as of May 1, 2025
9 & Up - practice 4:45-6:00 pm, M/W/F, $265. Must have completed Stage 5 lessons or be able to swim 50 yards, (2 lengths), of free and back in good form and know the basics of breaststroke and butterfly.
NOVICE, Ages 6-8 - practice 5:15-6:00 pm, M/W/F, $165. Must have completed Stage 5 lessons or be able to swim 25 yards, (1 length), of free and back in good form.
Several opportunities for SWIM MEETS with other Y’s will be offered. The following dates are confirmed but more may be added - June 21, 29 and July 13. There are also plans for a fun, carnival themed meet in July and August 1st is our end of season party.

FALL PRESEASON
COMPETITIVE STROKE is a conditioning program for 9 and over swimmers to help them prepare for the season. A must for anyone planning to do the Fall Classic meet at Spire Institute in October. Swimmers must still meet the requirements for their age group, (listed below), M/W/F, 5-6 PM, September 3-26. $120
JUNIOR SEA DRAGONS is for 8 and under swimmers. Participants must have completed Stage 4 and/or be able to properly swim 25 yards of freestyle with side breathing, and backstroke. Mondays & Wednesdays, 6-6:40 pm, September 3-24. $80
2025-26 FALL/WINTER SEASON
SEASON runs October 1, through their last meet, (typically February). Championship season for qualifying swimmers is in March - Silver Champs, Districts, States and Nationals. Practice schedule will be adjusted for March. Novice Championships, (8 & under), are in February.
NEW SWIMMER EVALUATIONS will be held on Wednesday, September 10, at 6 pm, or Monday, September 22, at 6 pm. Coaches will review new swimmer's strokes to insure they are ready for swim team and for proper placement in the program.
INFORMATIONAL PARENT REGISTRATION MEETINGS are Monday, September 15, or Tuesday, September 23, 6-6:45 pm at the Community Activity Center, (building in upper lot). Registration is only available by attending a parent meeting.
SWIMSUIT TRY-ON AND SALE will be on Monday, September 29, 4-7 pm on the pool deck. We will have a limited number of items for sale at the event. Team suits and other items are available through TYR and/or Swim Outlet team pages, accessible through our Team Unify site. Team suits, caps and training equipment are required. Personalized swim cap can be ordered at the sale. Swimmers should try on suits prior to ordering to ensure proper fit. Personalized team caps can be ordered at this event.
TRAINING GROUPS and PRACTICE SCHEDULE
Practices are set up by age group. We feel it is important for kids to be with their peers. Within the age groups we set up training groups based on ability. We put great focus on technique with the belief that with good technique speed will follow.
Please note age group for the season is determined by their age as of 12/1/2025
NEW NOVICE, 6-8 - practice T/TH, 5-5:45 pm. Participants will learn correct butterfly and breaststroke and fundamentals of competitive swimming. $225
ADVANCED NOVICE, 7-8 - practice M/W/F, 5-5:45 pm. Participants will continue to focus on technique and will learn flip and open turns for the 50 free and 100 IM. Recommend 2-3 practice days a week. $285
CADET, 9-10 - practice M/W/F, 5-6 pm, and beginning Oct 23, we will offer practice on Thursdays, 5-6 pm. Swimmers will continue to focus on technique of all 4 competitive strokes as well as open and flip turns. Recommend 3-4 practice days a week. $385
PREP, JUNIOR & SENIOR, 11-18 - practice Mondays & Wednesdays, 6-7:30 pm, Tuesdays, 6:30-8 pm and Fridays, 6-7 pm with dryland 5-6 pm. Beginning Oct 23, Thursday practice will be 6-7:30 pm. Continued emphasis on stroke technique, increased endurance, and leadership. Recommend 4-5 practice days a week. $460
HIGH SCHOOL – practice M/W/F, 4-5 pm, until HS season begins. Great opportunity to get a jump on the HS season. Swimmers can attend meets throughout the season. Participation in 3, Y meets are required to be eligible for Districts and States. $125
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR SWIM TEAM
Coaches will review new swimmer's strokes to insure they are ready for swim team and for proper placement in the program.
New Novice, 6-8 - can swim one length of freestyle with side breathing, and backstroke in good form. Equivalent swim lessons completed is Stage 4, Stroke Introduction.
Advanced Novice, 7-8 - same as new novice with the addition of proficiency in butterfly and breaststroke. Equivalent swim lessons completed is Stage 5, Stroke Development. Coach must approve placement in this group.
9-10 - can swim 50 yards of freestyle with side breathing, and backstroke in good form. They should be able to swim at least 25 yards of breast and fly. Equivalent swim lessons completed is Stage 5, Stroke Development or Stage 6, Stroke Mechanics.
11 & Up - are proficient in all 4 competitive strokes and can swim 100 yards of freestyle and backstroke, and 50 yards of breast and fly. Equivalent swim lessons completed is Stage 6, Stroke Mechanics.
Participation in league meets is required for all team members.
