Overview
The Fort Saskatchewan Piranhas Swim Club is looking for enthusiastic and energetic individuals to fill an assistant coaching position for the 2026 summer swim season. We are looking for self-motivated individuals who are able to work as part of a team. The Piranhas have been around for over 65 years and are a well established summer swim club with approximately 50-75 swimmers ranging from beginner to advanced. Piranhas coaching focuses on skill development, sportsmanship and passion for the sport. Coach development is a core component to the Piranhas philosophy!
Season: May – mid-August
Salary: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour plus compensation for planning and swim meets. Salary commensurate with experience
Hours: Approximately 10-20/week on deck with 1-2 hours/week of planning time
- Weekday Practices: Monday through Friday 4:30 to 6:30pm, May to August; however Fridays in May - June 6:30-7:30 pm.
- Summer Morning Swims Tuesdays and Thursdays 7:30-9:00am July - August.
- Weekend Competitions include 9 swim meets May - August, Regionals and Provincial Hours are dependent on coaching role, number of swimmers as well as lane assignment.
Responsibilities

Lesson planning that aligns with the Long Term Athlete Development program

Coordination, supervision and coaching of lane swimmers for practices and swim meets

Participate in coaching activities including: parent meetings, club activities pertaining to team spirit, games and fitness and year-end awards.

Represent Piranhas as a member of the coaching team at swim meets

Communicate with Executive Board Members, parents as required
Skills and Qualifications
-
Making Ethical Decision (MED) training and National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Community Sports Coach for Swimming certification minimum requirement

NCCP Swimming 101 or NCCP Swimming 201 preferable

Clear Criminal Record Checks including Vulnerable Social Sector

Strong technical swimming knowledge with the ability to develop and implement competitive swim programs for various skill levels

Excellent problem-solving abilities and ability to communicate and maintain positive relationships with coaches, swimmers, families, volunteers and officials

Previous coaching experience, swim instruction and competitive swimming experience strongly preferred

Strong leadership, and organizational skills, outgoing, energetic and dedicated
