Meet our 2025 Coaches!

Kier Przyswitt - Head Coach

    Kier has been coaching for 4 years and is excited to join the Fort Saskatchewan Pirahnas as the head coach for 2025!  
    He has previously coached for the Derrick Devil Rays and Huma swim clubs.  He swam competiively for 12 years from
    age 10 and finished his swim career swimming with the UofA.  His favourite part of swimming is the friendships he has 
    made over the years and his favourite events were teh 100 and 200 free and 100 fly!

 

Emma Laybourne - Assistant Coach

    Emma will be returning for her 3rd season with the Piranhas and previously swam with the team for 6 years. Emma also
    plays volleyball at the The King's University!
    The 100m backstroke is Emma's favourite event!


Mackenzie Pearson - Coach
    Mackenzie started coaching in 2024 for the Olympian Swim club and swam competitvely for 12 years.  Her favourite races
    are the 200m breastroke adn 50 fly.

Datyn Bass - Coach              
    This will be Datyn's first year coaching after spending 3 years teaching skiing and working as a camp counselor.
     He also previously swam with the Piranhas for 3 years. The 100m backstroke is Datyn's favourite event!

Join The Fort Saskatchewan Piranhas Swim Club

The Fort Saskatchewan Piranhas Swim Club is looking for enthusiastic and energetic individuals to fill coaching positions for the 2023 summer swim season. We are looking for self-motivated individuals who are able to work as part of a team. The Piranhas have been around for 65 years and are a well-established summer swim club comprised of approximately 40-75 swimmers ranging from beginner to advanced. Piranhas coaching focuses on skill development, sportsmanship and passion for the sport. Coach development is a core component to the Piranhas philosophy!.

Season: May – mid - August

Salary: $18.00 - $28.00 per hour plus compensation for planning and swim meets. Salary commensurate with experience

Hours: Approximately 10-20/week on deck with 1-2 hours/week of planning time

Weekday Practices: Monday through Friday 4:30 to 6:30pm May to August; however Fridays in May - June 6:30-7:30 pm.  Summer Morning Swims Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:00-9:00am July - August. Weekend

Competitions include 9 swim meets May - August, Regionals and Provincial Hours are dependent on coaching role (Head Coach vs. Assistant Coach) as well as lane assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Lesson planning that aligns with the Long Term Athlete Development program
  • Coordination, supervision and coaching of lane swimmers for practices and swim meets
  • Coordination of club coaching activities with rest of coaching staff and Coaching Committee including: parent meetings, club activities pertaining to team spirit, games and fitness and year-end awards
  • Represent Piranhas as a member of the coaching team at swim meets
  • Communicate with Executive Board Members, parents as required
  • Plan team meet entries and complete meet submissions to Alberta Summer Swim Association (ASSA)

Skills and Qualifications

  • Making Ethical Decision (MED) training and National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Community Sports Coach for Swimming certification minimum requirement
  • NCCP Swimming 101 or NCCP Swimming 201 preferable
  • Clear Criminal Record Checks including Vulnerable Social Sector
  • Strong technical swimming knowledge with the ability to develop and implement competitive swim programs for various skill levels
  • Strong leadership, and organizational skills
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and ability to communicate and maintain positive relationships with coaches, swimmers, families, volunteers and officials
  • Previous coaching experience, swim instruction and competitive swimming experience strongly preferred
  • Outgoing, energetic and dedicated
