Ford Aquatics Training Groups
The Ford Aquatics team is comprised of several different Training Groups. Each group listed below has unique objectives and training programs based on ability. Here, you can read about each level and establish goals to prepare yourself for the next level of training.
Raptor (Ages 5 - 8)
Monday - Friday 4:30 - 5:20 PM
We will focus heavily on learning to swim all four strokes legally and efficiently. There will also be a sizable emphasis on kicking. Our goal in this group is to build a love for swimming and a solid base that swimmers can use for the rest of their swimming careers. In this group, they will learn everything from how to push off a wall. how to breathe properly, how to be a good teammate, how to circle swim, and what to expect at a swim meet. Swimmers entering this group should be able to safely do a 25 of both freestyle and backstroke, we will teach them the rest. When swimmers leave this group, they should be able to swim at least a 50 of all four competitive strokes, legally and confidently.
Required Equipment:
- Cap, Goggles, Training Suit & Waterbottle
- Short fins - 1-3” and
- kick board

Maverick (Ages 8 - 11)
Monday - Friday 4:30 - 6:00 PM and Saturdays 6:30 - 8:00 AM
The goal of this group will be to develop a strong base of aerobic conditioning and utilize a wide array of drills to hone technique across all four strokes. Swimmers entering this group should be interested in improving and competing in the USA swim season. The biggest difference between Maverick and Raptor will be the volume of swimming and kicking. We will continue to spend a sizable portion of each session working on specific skills. We do not have a problem with people doing multiple sports; it is healthy at this age, but a consistent schedule of between 3 and 5 workouts per week is the path to success at this age. When swimmers leave this group, they should have a strong grasp on the why behind technique in all four strokes, as well as the strength to handle the increase in volume of Mustang and beyond.

Mustang (Ages 11 - 14)

This group will focus on learning about and developing all of the training and energy zones. The workouts will follow a predictable pattern throughout the week with specific goals for each session. Swimmers will be expected to be aware of their times, know their heart rate or level of effort, and commit to technique changes. Swimmers looking to improve should plan on attending 5-6 sessions per week and should prioritize swimming throughout most of the year. Technique will remain a focus as many swimmers will grow quite a bit during their time in this group. Swimmers should leave this group feeling like they have the tools to train and improve for at least the next 8 years of their lives. Our goal is to have swimmers leave this group feeling excited about future progress and knowing that swimming is their primary sport.
