Yuma HEAT offers age-appropriate, technique-based swim training for age-group swimmers of all ages and levels. We strive to provide a swim prYuogram that gives swimmers an opportunity to achieve successful and long-lasting swimming careers.

****As a side note we will NOT move swimmers up groups in the middle of the season: only after long course and short course season are completed your swimmer will have the opportunity***** Along with the requirements your squad coach will have the sole desecration on whether your swimmer is ready for the next level. 

SQUADS:

Embers 1 (non-competitive)
For young swimmers with limited swimming experience.
The swimmer must be able to swim 25 yards in deep water without the aid of an instructor and should be somewhat versed in any two of the
competitive strokes.
The swimmer must be able to listen and learn in a group environment.
The group focus is to learn 2 competitive strokes: freestyle & backstroke proficiently as well as being introduced to forward starts and the
respective stroke turns.
The swimmers do not need to be fully proficient on starts and turns while in this group but must be made familiar with them.
There is no attendance requirement for this group, but athletes will improve more quickly, the more often they attend practices.
*All Sparks 1 swimmers are required to have a kick board and a pair of "Long" fins.
* Head coach reserves the right to move a swimmer up or down according to what they believe is best for them.

Embers 2 (competitive)
This level is designed to introduce young swimmers into the sport of competitive swimming while allowing maximum opportunity to participate in
other activities.
Emphasis is on improving and refining the fundamentals of freestyle & backstroke by means of drills and games that make swimming fun.
In this group, swimmers will be introduced to swimming breaststroke & butterfly and must do so legally before moving to the next level.
At the completion of this level, swimmers must legally swim all four competitive strokes. Swimmers in this group will also learn to “master” all the
rules of competition for USA Swimming as well as proper workout and lane etiquette.
The swimmer must be able to listen and learn in a group environment. This group will continue to work on strokes, starts, turns, proper push-offs
as well as some limited endurance swimming.
Must attend 4 out of the 5 practices and it is recommended that your swimmer participates in all home swim meets.
-Parents must complete a total of 5 Volunteer hours for a both Short and Long Course Season (PER FAMILY)
 
*All Embers 2 swimmers are required to have a kick board and a pair of "Long" fins.

Sparks 1 (non-competitive)
This level is designed to introduce young swimmers into the sport of competitive swimming while allowing maximum opportunity to participate in
other activities.

In this group, swimmers will be introduced to swimming breaststroke & butterfly and must do so legally before moving to the next level.

Must attend 2 out of the 3 practices and it is recommended that your swimmer participates in all home swim meets.
 
*All Sparks 1 swimmers are required to have a kick board and a pair of "Long" fins. Snorkel is Recommended.

Sparks 2 (Competitive)
Sparks 2 swimmers must be capable of 90 minute swim practices.
Expected meets for the Sparks 2 swimmers include monthly competition (mandatory 1 per month meets), Regional and State meets (if qualified).
ALL Sparks 2 SWIMMERS that qualify for any championship meet will automatically be entered in the meet and will be expected to attend. Only
swimmers who attend the championship meets will be considered to be a part of the YUMA HEAT championship team.
Any Sparks 2 swimmers that have missed a monthly meet (without reasonable excuse) will be moved back to the non- competitive Sparks 1
group until such time as two of the monthly meets in succession (two meets in a row) have been attended. Only then will they be moved back to
the Sparks 2.
Sparks swimmers are expected to attend a minimum of 5 out of the 6 offered practices per week.
Swimmers should always execute appropriate and legal turns without exception and should always be punctual to practices as well as meet
warm ups. Athletes should exhibit good sportsmanship and must always be a positive influence on the group. Swimmers that do not live up to
this code of conduct will be asked to leave practice for the day.
 
-Parents must complete a total of 10 Volunteer hours for a both Short and Long Course Season (PER FAMILY)
 
*All Sparks 2 swimmers are required to have a kick board, a pair of fins(Churchill), Paddles, Pull Buoy and Snorkel.
* Head coach reserves the right to move a swimmer up or down according to what they believe is best for them.

Inferno 1 (non-competitive)
Inferno 1 swimmers must be capable of 90 minute swim practices.
This level is designed to introduce High School aged swimmers into the sport of competitive swimming while allowing maximum opportunity to
participate in other activities.
Emphasis is on improving and refining the fundamentals of freestyle & backstroke by means of drills and games that make swimming fun.
In this group, swimmers will be introduced to swimming breaststroke & butterfly and must do so legally before moving to the next level.
At the completion of this level, swimmers must legally swim all four competitive strokes. Swimmers in this group will also learn to “master” all the
rules of competition for USA Swimming as well as proper workout and lane etiquette.
The swimmer must be able to listen and learn in a group environment. This group will continue to work on strokes, starts, turns, proper push-offs

Inferno 2 (Competitive)
Inferno 2 swimmers must be capable of 180 minute swim practices.
ALL meets for the Inferno 2 swimmers are (mandatory 1 per month), Regional and State meets (if qualified). ALL Inferno 2 SWIMMERS that
qualify for any championship meet will automatically be entered in the meet and will be expected to attend. Only swimmers who attend the
championship meets will be considered to be a part of the YUMA HEAT championship team.
Any Inferno 2 swimmers that have missed a monthly meet (without reasonable excuse) will be moved back to the non- competitive Inferno 1
group until such time as two of the monthly meets in succession (two meets in a row) have been attended. Only then will they be moved back to
the Inferno 2.
Inferno swimmers are expected to attend all offered practices per week. Unless given a reasonable excuse.
Swimmers should always execute appropriate and legal turns without exception and should always be punctual to practices as well as meet
warm ups. Athletes should exhibit good sportsmanship and must always be a positive influence on the group. Swimmers that do not live up to
this code of conduct will be asked to leave practice for the day.

*All Inferno 2 swimmers are required to have a kick board, a pair of fins(Churchill), Paddles, Pull Buoy and Snorkel,Finis Tempo Trainer.
