2023 Winter Provincial champs recap

Head Coach Anchie

By Anchie Xu,

The 2023 Swim BC Winter Provincial Championship was hosted by Island Swim Club at Saannish Commonwealth Place in Victoria on March 2-5. There were 593 athletes from 42 swim teams who raced at this meet.

Uma Sukkau, Helen Shen, Jobia Plata, Kieu-vy Nguyen, Sephora Lee, Melissa Zeng, Kohen Lee, Jayden Chung, Jayden Du, Eugene Park and Terrance Wen attended the meet. For some swimmers, this was the first provincial championship they had participated in. They raced the event they had just qualified at the Dividivial champs, so that was a great experience and opportunity for them to compete with the fastest swimmers in BC.

The first long course meet was challenging; however, our swimmers did well at the meet. We broke two new club records:

Helen Shen broke her own record for the long course 50m breast with a time of 35.63. The time also achieved the Western standard. Congratulations, Helen Shen!

Our 13-14 girls' relay team broke the open-age girls' 4x50 long course medley relay record held by Samantha Corea, Jenny Shing, Sherry Liu, and Tracy Lam in 2007 with a new time of 2:10.58.

Top Eight in finals:

6th Place:

Helen Shen: 50 Breast

Jobia Plata, Helen Shen, Kieu-vy Nguyen, Melissa Zeng: 13-14 yrs girls 4x50 Medley Relay

7th Place:
