2025 Winter Divisional Championship Recap
By Coach Daniel,
The season had officially reached its first half and peak weeks for our swimmers. Winter Divisional meet set the beginning of this period, and it was a success.
Hosted by Surrey Knights, at Surrey Sport & Leisure Complex, Winter Divisional reunited ten swim teams from the Vancouver Fraser Division and around 350 swimmers.
Our Gators athletes (20) were a mixed of experienced divisional swimmers (14) and first-time divisional swimmers (6). The combination resulted in a great experience for our swimmers during the 3 day [prelims & finals] swim meet.
Day 1: Is Racing my valentine? (Feb 14th)
First day of swimming, occurred on a popular day for many, but our swimmers were ready to race on valentine’s day. Five events were swum during prelims (200 IM, 100 BK, 200 FL, 50 BR, 400 FR) and our athletes were ready to achieve new marks. Two new divisional and one new provincial standard were achieved; at the same time six spots in the finals were secured by different swimmers.
Around 4:30 PM finals begun, and our individual finalist and relay teams were ready to set the stone on the first day. Our finalists were able to improve their morning times, and a bronze and silver medal were earned.
Team effort was also shown during the relays. Our 12&U Boy’s relay was part of a great race defining the third place in the last meters of the race, giving the team a bronze medal. 15&O Girls and Boys teams impressed getting best times for each length of the relays but failing short to the top three teams.
Day 2: We got faster (Feb 15th)
With the excitement of the first day, the team simply got faster during day 2 prelims. During five events (200 FR, 50 FL, 100 BR, 50 FR, 200 BK) four new divisional and two new provincial standards were achieved. But it was not all, as nine final spots were secured, and a new club record was achieved.
Finals began with excitement for our team as one of our swimmers was part of a 50 FR swim off, giving her a new best time. Individual finalists did a great job, adding two new medals, silver and gold; and two new club records.
Gators’ Medley relays also add value to the team performance, great speed by each relay member allowed all relay teams improve their time.
Day 3: Team Spirit (Feb 16th)
Divisional meet success it is also determinate by the team support through every event. Our swimmers kept the team spirit through the final day and its last five events (200 BR, 100 FR, 50 BK, 100 FL, 800 FR). This collaborative effort gave the team two new divisional standards, one provincial standard and seven finals’ qualifiers.
Last final session gave the club lots of excitement on close races and the effort of our swimmers result on two new provincial standards and two new club records.
Divisional meet ended with a 400 Mix FR relay. 13-14 and 15&O teams were part of this event, and it was great to see the collaboration of our fastest female and male atheltes.
There is no doubt that this was a great performance for the team and a great learning experience for the younger swimmers who participated for the first time in a high-level meet.
