West Coast Open Recap

Head Coach Anchie

By Coach Daniel,

During the first weekend of May, Gators attended the first of various swim meets scheduled for this month. West Coast Open, hosted by Richmond Rapids, was the first opportunity for some swimmers to test themselves in a long course pool (50 mts).

Along the three-day meet our athletes were able to demonstrate their preparation and ability to perform in a different meet environment.

Through the first two days at the West Coast Open, our athletes showed a strong performance. Day 1 and 2 Gators filled up the board with personal best times in a Long Course (LC) pool. New club records were also achieved. Day 1 gave the club a new 50 BK record (Girls 10&U) and on day 2 a new club record in the 50 FR (Boys 15-16) was obtained. Saturday session was rounded up with the addition of a new swimmer to our Divisional roster (Boys 12&U) in the 50 FR.

Sunday (Day 3) was full of achievements to the team and a great way to close our participation. Club records were dropping to a level the same record (200 BK - 10&U girls) was broken twice within 5 min apart by Alicia Zheng and Hallie Ng. Another important achievement occurred in the 100 FR (Boys 15-16) as it now has a new mark to be broken. Before the night concluded two of our swimmers qualified the 100 FR divisional, and a new swimmer achieved her first divisional event in the 50 BR.

The meet was not all sprinting, as our distance swimmers for 400 FR, 400 IM and 1500 FR also obtained their personal best times for each event. These events do not just show the versatile agility of our swimmers in the water but also proved that our gators teammates are ready to support those in the water.

Undoubtedly, this was a strong participation of the team in a long course meet and a useful experience that will allow them to prepare to the summer peak meets.
