Hyack May LC Invitational Recap

Head Coach Anchie

By Coach Daniel,

As the second part of the season continues our athletes added another long course meet under their caps and googles. Hyack invitational was a three-day swim meet, that included prelims and finals sessions. This was an opportunity for our experienced and new swimmers (to this format) to be aware of the demand divisional and provincial meets could have.

Day 1 was an exciting start for our swimmers as they were able to participate in four different events. The day open with 200 IM on which Steven Ge was able to qualified to his first final of the meet. The second event of the morning (100 BR) also gave Steven another finals spot, while another swimmer just fell short of having another divisional standard. In the 50 BK, Uma Sukkau secured her spot in the finals qualifying 7th.

This day also had a mid-day session, on which some our swimmers were able to swim the 800 and 400 FR marking best times for the season in long course.

During the finals the team was represented by a strong 12&U Girls relays to begin the session. The relay was not far from impressive as they were able to register a new club record in the 4x100 FR Relay. Individually Steven was able to manage the hardness back-to-back finals while Uma improved her morning time to end 5th overall.

Day 2 added more excitement to the club’s participation. Saturday began with 200 FL, and Uma picked where she left qualifying to finals during the first event. The second event was the 100 BK; and it gave the club 4 of our swimmers (Uma, Hallie, Alicia and Grace) set up themselves to swim in the afternoon session. Adella Duan did her part in the 100 FR (3rd event) when making her best time of the season and qualifying to the final session. During the 4th event of the morning Ethan Man showed his Breaststroke talents while qualifying 6th in the 200 BR. At the end of the morning session, during the 50 FL, Uma completed the hat trick making her third final of the day. Alicia Zheng on the other side, was able to set a new club record for her age group and achieving a new divisional standard.

Final session was also exciting with Uma and Adella improving all their morning times on each event. While the young swimmers (12&U) had a great performance positioning themselves in the top 10 swimmers of each event and age group, Ethan kept his number 6th ranking while also improving his morning time.

Day 3 couldn’t be left behind in the effort of our swimmers. The first event (200 FR) gave Adella her second final of the meet. Motivation was present and just after 3 swimmers (Hallie, Steven and Connor) put their names in the final session for the 50 BR. Uma kept her high performance and scored another hat trick for the session with 200 BK, 100 FL and 50 FR finals. Alicia and Hallie qualified to 200 BK with almost the same time. Grace and Adella add their names to close the session into the 50 FR finalists.

During the evening session our swimmers were able to get their best times of the day. Alicia Zheng close as strong as the day before, achieving another club record within the 200 BK for age group.

The meet was a taste of the upcoming meets (divisional and provincial) in June and July. It was a great effort by all of athletes who were able to keep and manage their energy to perform during three long days of competition.

Our swimmers will be back in the racing lanes during June at PSW, Rapids Summer Invitational and Divisional swim meets.
