2025 Summer Divisional Recap

Under a challenging weather, from June 27 to June 29, Gators’ divisional team swam at Central Park pool during the 2025 summer divisionals. 

 

First day of the meet was cold, cloudy and rainy, but our swimmers were able to adjust to the environment. Their results began to shown up fast and by the second event the team had  a new record for 10&U girls (Alicia Zheng), its first finalist in the 100 BK (Uma Sukkau). Uma was not the sole finalist, as 20 min after, Ethan Man, Joshua Chan and Connor Soong made their way to the 50 BR finals. By the end of the day Uma and Adella Duan, also did their best in the 400 FR to be in the finals sessions. 

 

The finals of day 1 were exciting for all of our participants. Finals were close races and our swimmers fought until the end, while falling just short of the podium. The hard work paid out for Connor Soong. He swam his best time of the season and achieved third place, earning the first medal for the team. 

 

During the finals our 4x50 FR Relays were represented by 

  • Girls 12 & U
    • Grace Ho, Kadence Wong, Emily Hwang, Alicia Zheng
    • Tungtay Thongsri, Hallie Ng, Mika Louie, Paige Nesbit
  • Boys 13 - 14
    • Keen Shimakura Thomas, Connor Soong, Tristan Gfrerer, Sino Farid 
  • Girls 15 & O
    • Uma Sukkau, Sophie Chan, Ella Leong, Melissa Zeng
  • Boys 15 & O
    • Freddy Ding, Aaron Lim, Joshua Chan, Ryan Man

The second day of Summer Divisional brought sunlight by the end of the prelims sessions, and with it our swimmers went out and to qualify to 5 final spots and achieved 1 new Divisional qualifier. Melissa Zheng was the first finalist for the team in the 50 FL. During the next event (100 BR) Liam Chan collected a new divisional standard; while Joshua Chan and Ryan Man secured a spot in the 15&O Finals. By the end of the session Uma Sukkau and Hallie Ng made the 200 BK look easy as they qualified to the finals. 

 

With the sun on top of Central Park pool, our Gator finalists did their best and show great performances while improving the morning qualification times. Joshua Chan was able to achieve a new provincial standard during his final in an exciting race. Uma Sukkau kept her pace within the top three swimmers, and achieved a new medal for the team, ending third place for the 200 BK. 

 

During the finals our 4x50 IM Relays were represented by 

  • Girls 12 & U
    • Hallie Ng, Mika Louie,  Emily Hwang, Grace Ho
    • Kadence Wong, Paige Nesbit, Alicia Zheng, Tungtay Thongsri
  • Boys 13 - 14
    • Sino Farid, Connor Soong, Keen Shimakura Thomas, Tristan Gfrerer
  • Girls 15 & O
    • Ella Leong, Melissa Zeng, Adella Duan, Uma Sukkau
  • Boys 15 & O
    • Freddy Ding, Aaron Lim, Joshua Chan, Ryan Man

Third day showed different conditions and it was as hot and sunny day. The team kept the momentum and was able to get three spots in the finals and one new divisional standard. Adella Duan was the first one to guarantee her spot in the 100 FR. Moments after, Ryan Man and Joshua Chan got finals as 8th and 1st seeded respectively. In between these great results, Seva Furanov was also able to get a new divisional mark for 100 FL. 

 

As the swim meet was coming to an end, our finalists were ready. The 100 FR final was one of the closest races of the session and our swimmer was able to get the best time so far in the season. After this exciting race, Joshua Chan and Ryan Man shared the final heat. Joshua led the race and in strong finish he was able to achieved first place and a new provincial standard. On the other side of the pool Ryan Man did also great race, allowing him to get a new divisional standard.

 

During the finals our 4x100 FR MixRelays were represented by 

  • Mixed 12 & U
    • Kadence Wong, Grace Ho, Colin Du, Liam Chan
  • Mixed 15 & O
    • Freddy DIng, Melissa Zeng, Uma Sukkau, Aaron Lim

Our team closed the participation with improved times and adding more swimmers to the provincial team. Congratulations to all of our  new and experienced swimmers at divisionals. 

 

The team look now to prepare the provincial team that will participate in the Summer Provincials at UBC from July 17 to July 20.
