Ancaster Alligators Swim Team - Masters Program

Coach-led fitness training and stroke correction for swimmers 18 years and older. Motivations include fitness, triathlon training, and competitive swimming. All members are eligible to compete in local and provincial Masters Swimming events. Competitive swimming experience is not required.

The original Ancaster Masters Swim Club (AMSC), which started many years ago, is now fully affiliated with the Ancaster Alligators Swim Team (AAST), a registered Swim Ontario club.

Details:

  • Morning Club Practices are on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at MacNab Recreation Centre in Hamilton from 6:30 – 7:30 am.
  • Evening Club Practices are Monday, Wednesday & Friday evenings from 8:15- 9:15 pm at Ancaster Aquatic Centre.
  • Wednesday Mornings at MacNab: For fall 2025 only, 6:30 – 7:30 am at MacNab.

(Note: Membership & swim practice times for the morning/evening clubs are not interchangeable. We do not swim at the same time as the under-18 group, except in special and very occasional circumstances, such as holiday schedules or mock swim meets, and on the additional Wednesday morning training sessions scheduled for the fall of 2025.

Members are encouraged to attend as many of the practices as possible to get the full benefit of the training.  However, we understand that work and other life commitments may not allow for full attendance.  We also expect you to stay home from the pool if you are unwell. Much like buying a membership to a fitness club, you are purchasing access to the training, and there is no price reduction if you do not attend all the training, nor refunds if you stop attending entirely during the term of the membership.

There are usually two terms during the year: September through December and January through June.

Training:

There is a certified coach on deck at each practice who will plan and supervise a warm-up, main set, and cool-down. (You will be expected to follow what the group is doing, but can rest at the wall if necessary.) Stroke correction and drills are usually part of our workouts. Note that this is not a learn-to-swim program; it is more of a swim for exercise/fitness and a learn-to-swim BETTER program!

The morning and evening clubs are full and have waiting lists. Please go to the “Contact Us” tab on this website and click on “Join the Team” to be added to the waiting list.

Once your name comes up on the waiting list, you will be asked to attend a practice where the coach can watch you swim to see if the club is a good fit for you.  If you would like to watch a swim practice to see what we do, come to the Ancaster Aquatic Centre during one of our swim times and watch from the gallery, or go to MacNab Recreation Centre and watch through the glass doors.
