1. Do I have to be a good swimmer to join the team?
No. If you cannot swim our lesson program will teach you how and you can move to the team when you are ready. Everybody has a place and is welcome at Alicante Swim Club.
2. Do I have to try out?
No. We hold swimmer evaluations to help us place swimmers into appropriate training groups or into our lesson or stroke development programs, but we have a program tailored to everyone’s ability, so no swimmer is turned away.
3. What if I’m involved in other sports?
Most of our swimmers participate and thrive in other sports and activities. Our practices are usually offered 2 days a week to allow for more opportunities to participate.
4. Are meets held every weekend?
No, and it is up to you how many meets you enter based on your schedule. Usually, swimmers can compete one or two weekends a month (but not every month) in age-appropriate settings suited to their competitive level.
5. Is there a lot of travel involved?
Most of our meets are in the Lower Mainland area or at our home pool, although we do offer the opportunity for the team to travel to meets in other areas. All trips are optional.
6. Where are practices held?
Practices are at North Surrey Recreation Center in the cold weather public pools.
7. Can I join anytime?
Yes, you are welcome to join the Levels lessons and team any time throughout the year.
8. Do the boys have to wear “speedos”?
No, although they are still around, most boys opt for the knee-length “jammer” suit.
9. What is the cost?
Registration is paid when you join. On joining the club a $110 yearly fee per family is payable annually on the 15 th of September 2016, with $50 yearly insurance premium for each swimmer to enable you to swim in the club. The Alicante Swim Club fee schedule is based on retaining a high-quality, full-time staff. The cost varies based on the Levels in which your swimmer is placed and how many swim meets you enter. Reduced fees are available :
1. When you paid for three months is 5% discount
2. When you paid for half season is 10% discount
3. When you paid for all season 15% discount.
4. Payments will not be reimbursed
10. Termination of Swimming
If a member wish to discontinue swimming prior to the end of the season and wish reimbursement they must submit in writing their wish to discontinue 30 days prior to their next fee installment. This declaration must be submitted to the Head Coach.
11. Who does the coaching and what are their certifications?
We have a staff of professional, experienced coaches who love what they do. They are all certified through Swim BC and are required to maintain CPR, Coaches Safety & First Aid plus other coaching certifications.
12. When signing up for private lessons I cannot pick a time, why?
There are specific times listed for open pool time for private lessons and the lessons are based on your time and the instructor's availability. After registration, an instructor will send you an email or phone call within 2 days to set up the lessons. It is between you and the instructor to work out the amount days per week and times. Private lessons are not based on Group Swim Lesson session dates.
