Kelly Tatinger assumes Coaching role for Tri Masters
Sep. 01, 2012 Saturday
By: Webadmin - Sep. 01, 2012
Dale Robinson has moved on and we wish him the best of luck over the new season. We hope to carry on a strong tradition of great swimming within our club in the Masters and Tri area. Our club offers swimming for those adults who are able to do a training session of 45 minutes and longer within a 50 metre pool and the groups are divided accordingly according to your own level.
This year, Kelly Taitinger, Head Coach of the Canadian Dolphin Swim Club will take over as the main coach for the Tri-Masters group. Kelly has coached the group in the past and has a vast knowledge (30 years) of swimming in all areas. Kelly has taken his level IV NCCP coaching certification and has worked with both the Canadian Dolphin Swim Club as well as with the UBC Dolphins in the past. He has two University degrees specializing in Education and Phys. Ed as well as is a member of Chartered Professional Coaches Association of Canada –ChPC
Guiseppe "Flip" Filippelli 1923-2012
Aug. 27, 2012 Monday
By: WebMaster - Aug. 27, 2012
Guiseppe "Flip" Filippelli 1923-2012
The Canadian Dolphin Swim Club
extends its deepest sympathies to the family of
Flip Filippelli
Flip had been involved with the Canadian Dolphin Swim Club and in swimming since his kids swam for CDSC in the late 60s and early 70s. He became greatly involved as a high level official in the early 70s and could be seen refereeing or otherwise officiating at meets across Canada. There probably is not a swimmer who received a medal at a higher level meet who did not have it presented to him or her by Flip.
Flip had a way of presenting medals with a smile and often a congratulatory comment that really made swimmers feel proud. Flip had not only created countless good memories for swimmers across Canada, especially from the Canadian Dolphin Swim Club, but also provided years of dedicated volunteering to the swimming world.
Flip is missed by CDSC and all those whose lives he touched both in swimming and in his private life.

By: KT - Jul. 30, 2011
Day 4 FINALS
Day 4 Prelims
Today the highlight of the morning was Eva Turner posting the fastest time of a slower seeded heat that stood up to place 10th overall and in to her first ever final at age group nationals. Hers was another best time in the 13 yr old girls 200m Breaststroke.
Travis Kam continued to move through in the backstroke events in tying for 8th place going in the 100m version in to finals tonight.
Unfortunately Colton Kasteel missed the finals in the 200 breast after taking out his first 50 but for the next 150 it was not aggressive enough, placing him in 13th and out of a final position
Jacky Yang, Jaeten Gosal and Vivian Wu all swam to best long course times and Emilee Black was just off hers in the 100m Backstroke.
Tomorrow will conclude the age group national championships.

Jul. 27, 2011 Wednesday

By: KT - Jul. 27, 2011
Day 1 FINALS
Finals on Wednesday saw Travis Kam race to a best seasonal time and move up to
5th. He was a little anxious and was moving his arms a little too fast for him to have a strong pull so we are working on settling the first part of the race.
Day 1 Prelims
Some good swims this morning with 16 yr old Travis Kam and 15 yr old Colton Kasteel each placing 9th to advance to finals. Kam is in the 200 backstroke and Kasteel into the 50 breast respectively.
The girls all posted best times in their respective events, rookies to the meet Emilee Black and Eva Turner, both 13, joining 14 yr old Vivian Wu this year.
Jacky Yang joined Colton and Travis with a best time in the 50 breaststroke as well.

Dynamo Invitational:
Jun. 13, 2011 Monday

By: NJ - Jun. 13, 2011
CDSC's young stars competed in what for many was their last multi-team meet of the season this weekend. Many achieved a lot of firsts, and not just winning races. Many made their 1st final, earned their 1st medal, swam events for the 1st time, and for 3 youngsters earned their 1st BC "AA" standards.
10 yr old Lauren Babich dropped 6 seconds from her morning swim to win the 10 yr old 200 Backstroke inside the "AA" standard. 10 yr old Jacqueline Lee just missed her standard in the 200 Breaststroke final, but came back the next day in a special Time Trial dropping 5 seconds to get to the standard. 11 yr old Kyrylo Keydanskyy also qualified via the Time Trial route in his 200 Breaststroke.
Those 3 will join the rest of CDSC's "AA" team in 2 weeks in Kelowna. Congrats!

By: NJ - Jun. 06, 2011
Congratulations to 11 yr old Amelia Tjoa for being selected to participate in the TeamBC LMR (Lower Mainland Regional) Camp this past weekend. Amelia trained and attended a variety of nutrition and dryland session with the best 12&u swimmers in the Lower Mainland. She also heard tips and stories from Olympians Tanya Hunks and Brian Johns. These TeamBC camps are a stepping stone to TeamBC age group and Junior squads, and then onto National Development teams. Congrats Amelia!

Eva Nagy has to be congratulated on making the Swim Canada I.D. team for 14 & unders. She joins an impressive list of swimmers such as Charlotte Philpotts, Danica Ludlow and
Noemie Thomas to mention a few. CONGRATULATIONS and good luck in your summer meets back home in July.

Mel Zajac - Day 3:
May. 29, 2011 Sunday

By: KT - May. 29, 2011
The last day saw Travis Kam make it in to the B final of the 100 back and Zach Somjen make the B final of the 50 breast. Sean MacDougall swam to a best time in the 100 free and a swim that was put together well.
Colton Kasteel made his first ever final in the 50 breast posting a best time and one of only three 15 & u swimmers to make it in the finals of an impressive list. Scott Dickens, Paul Kornfield and other senior swimmers were all in the meet and Scott just missed the meet record by a mere 1/100th of a second.
Overall, it was great to see some of our swimmers rise up to the occasion and they need to get a few more meets where they really have to fight to get in to the finals and then try to perform with the best in Canada. The next meet for these swimmers will be provincials in
early July and then hopefully most will make the Age Group Nationals in July later on. Zach is scheduled to take part in Senior Nationals at mid July. Good luck with the final training bout and we look forward to your next batch of results.

Mel Zajac - Day 1:
May. 27, 2011 Friday

By: KT - May. 27, 2011
Friday Finals
Zach Somjen benefited from a scratch and moved up to race the B final of the men's 100m Breaststroke. He took full advantage of this opportunity moving up to 5th in the B final dropping almost a second from his morning swim finishing in 1:08.03.
Friday Prelims
Zach Somjen swam in to the C final today of the 100 Breaststroke just missing the B final by 1/100th. Others seem to struggle but stated that they did not seem to be going fast. Trust instincts to race and do not start to do something at a meet that you usually not do in practice. Remember that consistency starts by doing something correct over and over again so practice is where we want to see you be consistent with great habits. Work on what we have been working on in practices so you at least have an aspect of what to expect when doing this type of exercise.

Hyack Youth Cup:
May. 23, 2011 Monday

By: kt - May. 23, 2011
The weekend at Hyack gave us some good insight as to where some of our swimmers are at. Overall, the work on kicking led to some better walls and legs throughout the swimming on the weekend. Travis Kam had some good swims making all finals in his events and winning the 100 back, coming in 2nd in the 200 back and finishing a close third in the 200 IM. Amelia Tjoa was the fastest 11 year old in the 100 back and used her legs well in her swimming. Amelia Bus made the second round of the 50 free eliminator and had some great best times throughout the meet with a great attitude all the time. One of the most impressive swims of the weekend was Eva Turner in her 200 breast where she narrowly missed the Age Group National standard and was the first alternate in that event. She went on to have impressive swims in the 100 breast as well as the 200 IM. Amira Ali made a few final swims as did Sean MacDougall. Jaeten Gosal managed to get through to a second swim as well in the 100 breast and Jacky Yang swam well in making a couple of A finals and getting a few personal best times throughout the meet. Emilee Black showed some aggressiveness in her racing as well and is starting to make some inroads on what she will need to do in order to make some final swims at provincials. Tyler Barr had an impressive swim in the one heat of the 400 free coming from behind to win his heat and showed some promise in racing skills. The relays for the boys proved to do pretty well as they were second overall in the 200 M.R. and 4th overall in the free relay. The girls swam well also in making a top eight placing in their 13-14 relay.
We look forward to the Mel Zajac meet and look towards some more personal bests as well as some chances to race in a higher profile meet.

West Coast Open:
May. 09, 2011 Monday

By: NJ - May. 09, 2011
Many of CDSC's young future stars participated in the West Coast Open at Watermania this past weekend. These swimmers were challenging some different and sometimes longer events after racing at their own Mies Schootman meet last month.
Many 10&u swimmers swam into the awards in the top 8, but 3 older girls managed to qualify for the BC "AA" Championships coming up this spring:
- Christine Lee, 13 yr old girls 100 Breaststroke, 1:34.09
- Gabby Ribas, 13 yr old girls 100 Freestyle, 1:10.80
- Rachel Duong, 15 yr old girls 100 Freestyle, 1:09.33
Also adding to her "AA" program, 9 yr old Helen Black swam to new standards in the 11&u girls 100 and 200 Backstrokes (1:30.51, 3:10.36). Moving closer to their 1st "AA" standards were 10 yr olds Lauren Babich and Jacqueline Lee in multiple events. Looking at the 10&u "SwimStars" standard, 9 yr old Noah Kent made a large drop in the 200 IM to move significantly closer in that event. These 4 swimmers, along with Clara Tjoa, also cracked the top 8 in at least 1 event over the weekend with Black being the top finisher with two 2nd place efforts.
Showing great improvement across all events, the following swimmers acheived 100% best times over the weekend: Una Flego, Claire Hicks, Pauline Chen, Kristiyana Yordanova, Nikolina Minic, Stefan Markovic
Special congrats to our 3 youngest swimmers showing great enthusiasm and efforts as they race the 'big kids': 8 yr olds Lauren Ho, Alexandrina Jelaskoff and Clara Tjoa.

Zach Somjen had awesome 1st night with two best times and making the A final in 50 breast with new national cut. He shaved almost a second off his pb as well as racing Olympian finalist Mike Brown to the touch. Then he gets back in 5 minutes later and posting a pb in the 50 back in whicha better touch would have placed him in 7th.
Colton Kasteel swam within 1/10th and did great job but nerves are factored in and
stroke reliability was not there at the start. Jaclyn did fairly well considering being sick since our meet.
Travis Kam is going in 5th in the 50 Backstroke with a pb which was solid considering his being out of water two days last week.
More details to come...
